Most of you know my car by now but I am THINKING of selling it.

I would give you everything I have for the car: FMIC project, JDM bumper (almost fixed) most all records. Never in accident!!

Would 12k be a resonable price for a car that can keep up with a stock STI??

I put lots of money into this car and I will keep putting money into this car if I keep it. A lowered car is not the best thing to have in Oregon since we get rain and flooding every year. I am also trying to save up for a house or simular and if you're asking what I am looking to get to take place of this car, I am think of the new Toyota FJ Cruiser which got one of the top marks for small SUV by Consumer Reports this year. (and the flood gates have been opened....lol)

ugh, I wouldn't get an FJ cruiser if you do any highway driving. Horrid aerodynamics.

Honestly, I'd go lightly used too, so you don't lose a lot on depreciation.

Ditching the subie for a home is a noble cause, I'll definitely give you that.

But ditching it and then buying new would kinda defeat the house purpose.

Check out a few different sources. Consumer Reports isn't always the best for making a decision, they've led me down the wrong path a couple of times.

I knew I would get shizzz for an SUV....lol but I like going off road, when I can, up in the hills or deep snow or friends parents 100 acres on the river during the summer. I like the looks and I really don't do that much highway driving anymore and new MSRP is 21-23k and its a Toyota which are great rides and reliable.

If you want off road, get one of those new outbacks! Seriously, the FJ cruiser only looks like it's capable. Its AWD system isn't as good as a Subarus.

Unless it's got a serious 4WD system with locking differentials? I don't think so...

I think the FJ is alright for an SUV. A friend of mine has one and it seems nice. But I think making the leap from a performance sports sedan to a big, dumb SUV is going to be a tough one to get adjusted to. The Outback is sort of the compromise between the two.

I think that's a fair price... but there's been so much "custom" done to it that you might have a tough time finding a buyer, unless it was for under $10k.

But the car is worth $12k, IMHO.

If you want off road, get one of those new outbacks!... Surprisingly the Outback is not a very good alternative to a legitimate SUV. :shock:

We have an 05’ and it replaced a decent SUV in an attempt to lower gas milage, etc. Unfortunately we’re not very happy with it simply because it doesn’t have enough room, yet is still a larger profile rig. We can’t fit two adults, baby, stroller, and dog in it successfully like we can an SUV. Might as well just own a sedan with a trunk cuz that’s about as comparable.

Hey I’m just as surprised as the rest of you guys… It just doesn’t have enough room; it’s like riding in a sedan with a hatch-back style trunk. The rear section has a low roof which angles forward and eats up all the space. We’re thinking about getting rid of it honestly… No point in owning a wagon if you only use it like a sedan…

how about a truck? like a tocoma? unless you have a family then an SUV would work better, but for off roading a toyota truck is pretty sweet and they last a long time.

The jdm bumper cover is a replica found at Primitive racing.

I dont have any pics right now of the front end but I can tell you that the bumper thats on it right now is just a junk/winter bumper I picked up, as the JDM replica one got some damage and is almost done being fixed. Just havent had the time or weather to work on the last two cracks and get it painted

I agree with xcntrk on this one.

You could live with an outback, but it still isn't quite big enough if you have a growing family.

I had two four door sedans. The Leg and my wife's IS300. So I had to decide on a compromise vehicle or SUV for me or the wife, or get just a spare utility car.

For me, I decided to go the exact opposite and buy the largest damn SUV I could find. Yes, a Suburban. :lol:

I absolutely love it now. Yes it guzzles gas, but in a pinch I can haul 8 people and still stow gear. With the second row folded down I can haul 8 foot sheets of drywall, which I did not that long ago to refurbish my downstairs.

If you buy an older reliable vehicle it's a good compromise. Insurance is pretty cheap for a third car if it is an older vehicle. I pay less than $200 for 6 months of coverage. I suggested it as an option, but he doesn't have his own house, so parking your spare ride at your parents house, may or may not be acceptable. :grin:

The FJ is going to be reliable. I like the interior. The only thing I don't like is it can be a bit claustrophic for back seat passengers. It's really a mid to small size SUV, and looks larger than it really is. I would personally lean toward a 4-runner myself. The cool factor also makes it more difficult to negotiate a good deal on a FJ currently too.

xterra is actually a pretty nice ride. I think it even has a built in bike carrier, I would use quite a bit.

I don't know if the newer generations still have the supercharged model? But that is the one I would recommend. :grin:
