I got my intake from Mark. Thanks for pre-hacking it, you cut it in the perfect spot. ;)

I did some fab work today, not something I'm very good at, nor something I usually have any actual fun doing.

The intake I got from Mark looks like it's designed for a BE, or similar, MAP sensor equipped car. Well, duh, there's a freaking MAP sensor hole on it! My car has a MAF, and that really sexy idle air bypass. So, I had to mod the poor intake after I got it. Here's what I did.

The intake fit the TB perfectly with the connecter thingy. Well, I had to stretch it a bit, and really force it in place, but it fits. :D

I removed the rubber thing from the MAP bung, and set it aside. Not going to use it for anything, I suppose I could mail it to some random address in the middle of nowhere. I then pondered the interesting subject of vaccume hoses. The stock hose setup has two hoses with a T, a single hose right next to the TB, and the idle bypass. I'm going to remove the T, plug all 3 of the non bypass hoses into receptors, and then, install a brass fitting into the MAP bung, and run a hose to the idle bypass hose.

The intake didn't come with a MAF cone filter adapter, which is okay, since I didn't need one. I took my old cone intake, removed the metal plate from it, drilled 4 holes, and screwed it right onto my MAF. Very light, compact, and clean.

The last thing I did was take the mounting bracket, bend it, scream at it, call it colorful names, and finally, cut part of it with my dremel, and get it mounted. The filter/MAF are connected to it properly, and wow, nothing is going to do any moving there!

Anyone want pics? :D I won't disassemble the entire thing to take pics, but I'll take a few shots of the MAF/filter setup I used.

I realized that my idle bypass isn't connected quite right yet, I'm going to redo it.

I'll get pics tomorrow when I open up for more surgery (grounding mod).

I didn't reset the ECU yet, but it sounds pretty good so far.

I would like to see pics! I was hoping that was cut in the right place dude! I was intending to use the stock airbox, but realized that the idle air bypass was waaaaay too small for me.

I ran into that problem too. That's why I got the brass fitting and screwed that into the MAP hole. :D

pics in a little bit, I have to boot into Windows to get pics off my camera. >_<

If you hadn't cut it, I probably would have had to. The filter would have been too close to the fender, and I can't get my snorkus out. :( I'm going to have a shop pull it out, since I can't seem to get the fender liner off without putting the car up on a rack.

Sound clip, I can do that too. Might have to wait for tomorrow though. :)

Okay, pics will be uploaded to http://biyofan.joeyteel.com/groundmod/

Also will have a pic of the car with the aftermarket American Racing wheels on and one with the new WRX wheels on. Stupid camera lense protector is sticking again, i didn't notice it so there's dark areas at the top and bottom of the last image there.

That air filter looks like in went to hell and back. I would use teflon tape on that bung that is screwed in the side of the intake tube.

 Hell and back, maybe about 5 or 6 times. It was on my BE for about a year and a half, I'm going to get a K&N recharge kit and oil it, clean it.

I've got video uploading now, WOT pull to 60 mph (first, second, and just a blip in third).

It'll be uploaded to http://biyofan.joeyteel.com/LegacyGT Look for the videos, they're uncompressed AVI's since my camera is kinda dumb and doesn't know about compression yet...

Edit: oh, and before you make assumptions about the cone filter, you should know what happened to the BE before the cone filter was put on. I went mudding in the BE, and almost hydrolocked it. Water came up over the hood to the bottom of the windshield. That was a huge "OH S***!" moment. I still don't know how I got out of that...

Good deal. Nice idea with the threaded copper outlet there (although I would've put it down farther on the intake, but oh well).

You shouldn't use that hose though, I don't think it'll hold up to the heat under the hood very well. Heater hose at advance auto or some store like that is uber cheap.

That hose will be fine. TONS of STi and WRX owners pipe under the hood with that hose. Is that brass fitting in there nice and secure? How far does it protrude in?

They use that clear braided hoses on DIY oil catch cans. We did it on my friends 02 Max, it came out clean.

The pipe will be okay, it's over a cooler part of the engine anyway. If heat turns into a problem, then I'll just pull the backing off my hood scoop.

The brass fitting protrudes about 1/16th of an inch in that photo. I've since screwed it tighter in, it goes in about 1/8th of an inch now. The Idle bypass setup I have now works extremely well, it idles better than it did with the stock intake on it.

The brass fitting is funny because it fit perfectly into the MAP sensor hole. it was easier putting it there and getting longer hose than plugging the MAP hole and drilling in another part of the intake.
