remove that intake silencer (huge growth) in your fender and replace with this.
http://www.turbometrics.com/store/produ ... fda918fe00 (http://www.turbometrics.com/store/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=74&products_id=2895&osCsid=ac33c86359f851a26c3a11fda918fe00)
or possibly just cut off the bottom 2" of the growth
then buy a K&N panel and kit.
i'm running the elbow and a K&N panel filter with my WRX.

As long as you have the newer fenders. The older ones have different sized plug and location. I have The Korean's newer style snorkus and it doesn't fit into my older car. The change happened july of the 1996 model year.

yup, MY07.
i'll consider the elbow, but i've decided against the K&N. i want a dry filter. so might go with a Blitz or HKS.
the HKS is a disposable one tho...
we'll see. get throught the 1st service then i'll consider it :P
are we talking about THIS growth?

Wow, that almost looks like the stock intake setup on my BK. =\ They added another giant pimple back tot he BE type intake design. >_<
You have the MAP sensor and the IAT sensor now?

I was talking with the guys at STi and I was advised against this elbow mod because it will lose back pressure when the throttle is off if the car is only mildy modified, it will only be beneficial when you have more modifications such as I/H/E + ECU....
The loss of pressure will result in the revs dropping out of the powerband when you are changing gears...

well, good thing i'm at a stage 2 then. ;)
and honestly, i think this is more a sound mod than anythind else.

Backpressure...in the intake???
Must be a turbo thing. One could argue that all intake mods that reduce poor airflow are bad then.

It's more like a too much air in the intake issue...That is for cars with little mods..
Gil, I'm not sure what you have done but coming from you, I would assume you got a fair bit of bolt-ons done..
Like Gil said, removal of the intake ressy does little if nothing at all, you get a louder induction.. Some cars have resonator like boxes which does nothing except to stiffen up the intake pipe to reduce vibration, air doesn't even go in there...
The problem is that there are people who said removal is good and there are people who said leaving them there is good... It works both ways, depending on what you have...
Then it leads to the CAI vs. SRI system... Which is better...
CAI is good because you are getting air outside of the engine bay which in SRI mode, will cause heatsoak to the intake (Unless there is a box over the SRI), CAI on the other hand will suffer from poor 0-60ft times because of the travel the air needs to get to the TB... Also CAI risk hydrolocking the car due to the filter being located so close to the ground... Stay away from floods!!!
Panel is especially good for the Liberty/Legacy because it has a ram scoop over the grille and it's shielded from the engine bay and it keeps the sleeper/stock look and those that don't want the induction noise heeheheheehee

I'll argue with you on the CAI thing. You don't have to go low for a CAI. In fact, fender air is considered to be just as cold as outside air on our cars (a study was actually done on this) so you can get a CAI by just putting a 90* elbow in the airbox (to the fender).
I plan to get my airbox back in eventually, put the GPMoto elbow in, and then steal the "ram air" style stock WRX piece so I get cold air from the hood gap in the front of the car. I'm sure there's plenty of WRX owners with the stock intake pieces lying around their garage on Nasioc.

Just add a second AC setup, and have it pump straigt into your intake. Cold air even during the hottest parts of summer. :D Or, run the intake to the inside of your car, then you can REALLY hear the intake working...
Or just buy an Ariel Atom.

uh...no.
I'd rock the atom though.

Give me $50k and I'll get you an Atom.
The AC mod will probably be put in the same catagory as my "supercharger driven by an electrical generator" mod... Unless I get a beater and an old Generator this summer.

You're quite right actually, The thing is Subies have a cavity in the fender which not many cars have, in a case of mine, I ran my intake behind my front bumper cavity which is about 6 inches off the ground. :)
My bad on this one :D
