These should be easy Qs for anyone who has installed a radio on a Subaru.

2001 LegGT Sedan, AM/FM/Tape & single disc CD beneath (1 DIN each)

1.) Ordering from Crutchfield and they do not indicate whether an antenna adapter is required/included. Will I need one?

2.) Crutchfield has indicated that I should contact my automobile dealer to purchase an additional 'pocket.' This of course is due to the 1 DIN standalone CD player no longer in the equation. Will any 1 DIN pocket work or are these vehicle specific? I have one lying around from a 2000 Mustang.

3.) I am also purchasing the optional ipod controller, it's nothing more than a small box and a few wires, is there room enough to cram it somewhere near the deck?

Any other words of wisdom? I've done a few radio installs before but never on a Subaru.

Thanks!

1) no

2) You only need the pocket if you have a double DIN stereo in the car, if you have the single DIN and the CD changer, you can just leave the changer. It won't work with an aftermarket deck, but you won't have to mess with taking it out and trying to fit in another pocket. If you choose to though, any pocket should work, but I can't say 100%.

3) there are many places to put it, ash tray, bottom pocket, change dish below ash tray, etc...

The install is very straight forward. Crutchfield also should give you some paperwork on how to tear the dash apart with your order. Though it is pretty simple. Hardest part is getting the damn screws out above the ash tray

ha yes I remember those screws from when I changed the trim piece!

I'll likely get another pocket since I'd rather not have a dead CD player sitting there. I'm going to try to find one with a flip to close door.

New deck is in, easy & clean install.

FYI: all din pockets are not made equal. The leftover mustang pocket I used isn't the best fit. There is a 1/4" gap at the bottom that looks like hell. I'll be forkin up some moolah for a Subaru pocket, might as well get the flip door one.

You can usually find the Subaru flip door pockets for ~$20. I got mine from a guy who bought all my stock audio equipment a looooooong time ago.
