My driver's side seatbelt is frayed. How involved is replacing the seat belt? Can a novice do it, or does it require specialized tools and a few hours?

May be covered under warrenty. You may want to check that out first.

I don't recall there being any special tools needed. It'll just take some time. Worst part is likely getting the trim pieces out of the way so you can see the bolts you need to remove.

No, it's covered under a blanket warranty that covers all USDM cars, I believe. Call the dealership and ask them. I don't believe there is a mileage or age limit, as a seatbelt really should never break.

Question on the seatbelts:
Can you use a seatbelt from the passenger side, on the driver's side?
Can you use a seatbelt from the rear seats, on the driver's seats?

I honestly don't know for sure. I'd be surprised if you could use a passenger front seatbelt on the driver's side, but I woudln't be surprised if you could use the rear driver's side seatbelt the driver's seat itself. Indeed, that was one option i have been thinking about. :D

Your car was a BE?

Geeze, I'm tempted. I think the seatbelt will be okay for now, but I need to save money up. I've run up my visa bill, and that needs to get top priority for now. :(
