making a short ram into a cold air intake.

i was curious about possibly adding enough pipe to my exhisting short ram to make it a CAI. i was just worried that if i do it could throw off my MAF. my plan is to run pipe into my fender from the outer side of my MAF and install the filter in the fender. also where can i find the fender plug?

You could. Some of the auto stores now carry 3" aluminum piping and adapters and rubber couplers and everything you need to build your own CAI. I imagine it'd help your MAF to run a little bit of pipe compared to a filter right at the MAF which can create turbulence/inaccurate readings.

When Knottwont was still active here I asked him about a fender plug and he said they didn't make them for 95-96's.

If you have a late 1996 built car, you can plug your fender. ALOT of parts changed mid year for 1996. Mine was built in july so I have a variety of early 96 parts (single port exh., HLA's, fenders) and some later legacy stuff (can't remember particulars on these).

However, the size of the plug is close, so with some trimming you could probably fit it... hmmm... I have 4 days off now because of another blizzard, I might just try my hand trimming my current one as well.

You can check your manufacturing date. Mine was july 1995 (remember, even though your car is advertised as an "blah blah" its one year back from then). July is when the changes happened.

Funny thing, I went to the Subaru Dealership the other day asking for the fender plug. The parts guy didn't know what i was talking about, so he brough up some pics on his computer for me to identify, we couldn't find it :roll:

Actually, it would mean after, as mine is dual port.

However, actually look at the fender hole. My impreza plug definitely didn't fit, and I sold it to Gil. Now MXS has it.
