for the love of God help me

i wired my cigareete lighter backwards. smoked my radar detector. literally.

NOW

its wired right and any load on teh cig lighter circuit turns on and ENGINE FAN

when i flip the visor mirror open the fan cuts on too.

thats reaaaaal funny! You sure you spliced into the right wire? You may want to grab a wiring diagram just to see where the wire that you spliced into leads, and what other items (sun visor light, radiator fan, etc) is wired to the same line/fuse/etc. You may want to rethink that unless you want people to think you're one heck of a narcissist driving everywhere with your sun visor down and vanity open to keep your car from overheating! Is that messing with anything else in the car? I know when the therm opens the fans go, so potentially something could fry in your ECU...or your radar dectector sounds off when your computer really wants to kick on the fans cause its getting hot in therrr.

it was the lil 20A fuse for the cig lighter... replaced it and all better.


ps: i was just re hooking up the cig lighter, not changing anything.
and BTW- the new socket i got makes it about impossible to get it wrong. thank god.

u should hardwire the detector...eliminates the long wire...thats what i did to mine and you can do it without cutting the cord that came with it so you can move it from car to car.....
