View Full Version : some taillight rice...
got sick of the amber but I'm not going to buy JDM tails for my winter car... $3 for a can of spray paint, though, that I can deal with. Had an extra set of tails, here's what I did:

mmmhmm...
Guess I know what I'm going to do to all my stock tailights.
I had heard of the red film, but I think it was discussed on here somewhere that it looks like crap. Hope it looks good!

On a related topic.
The JDM tailights you sent me, Right one fits perfectly no problem. The Left one was gay lol. I tried using the stock socket tray and only lights up in one corner or the other. I tried cutting the inside plastic piece that seperates the lights, still didnt work. Guess I'll have to keep the stock ones.
Probly sell them tho

oooh, looks good. How does it light up though? You replace the bulbs with clear ones so it's a more reddish tone?
can't tell you how they light up... they are in my kitchen.
the bulbs that are in there already are clear, the plastic must just determine the color. I won't care if they light up amber-ish, I just don't like having the whole housing that color.
updates tomorrow.

I hate full red lights. No other sane nation uses red for brakes and turns. Why don't we start using red for turns up front too?

You are right about that Roger. I especially hate the ones that share the brake lights with the turn and running lights. Ugh. I almost hit a guy because only one of his brake lights was working, and it was barely brighter than his running lights (and looked like his turn signal or something). It was in stop and go traffic :-?

There is an awful lot of mind reading going on among BE owners here

Thats because our jdm tailights are so damn rare and expensive. :|
ok, here it is.
they light up kind of "orange" -- somewhere between red and amber -- in broad daylight. I'll update later (after it's dark!)

Old jeep wranglers suck. They have two red boxes on the back. These act as turn signals, brakes, and hazard lights. I was behind a jeep and I see him brake. Ok I slow down, and then his hazard lights come on. I can't get around him, when all of a sudden he is almost at a dead stop. Apparently the hazard lights take precedence over brake lights and so no brake lights ever came on.
BTW, the lights look good! But get some better pics! I have thought about doing this with some of the red rock blocker, because I have heard bad things about that painted fading and cracking off in extreme temperature changing climates (like colorado).
this picture sucks so bad, I don't even know why I'm posting it. I'll try again when I get my new camera (later this week)

So is the pic inaccurate? It looks pretty solidly red to me.

Agreed. However the 1st finished pic he posted still looked orange to me.

yeah that's what I meant when I said it sucks. I'll shoot a better-exposed one later in the week.
the bottom light is blinking, so for a long exposure it's only on for half as long as the top part of the light. therefore it doesn't look as bright in the photo, as it does in real life.

Interesting idea.. not my taste however.
that looks pretty good on the table, I'm also interested in how in comes out....and perhaps implement on BE?
Personally, if you do this I would have to slap you... Just the thought of that makes me cringe. Due to the size and layout of the BE tails, they needs something to break up the look and add some contrast.
If you decide to do it, I would strongly suggest that you do it in something that is easily reversible or photoshop it first to see how it is going to look...

Don't worry, I'm not satisfied with the result here to do this on my BE. The problem is that yellow is such a hard color to try to block out with a different color. I'v seen black attempts and now red and I can still see the yellow coming through. The answer may have to be a plastic tailight cover or a vinyl strip.
