Of those that have EXPERIENCE with this,
Have you had any NEGATIVE mechanical issues after the snorkusectomy?
I am talking about MAF problems or CELs.
I am looking to do any low-or no-cost mods I can, but I am not looking to create problems.

No problems, do it up!

Just reset the ECU when you have it done. No problems at all!

Can this be done by simply disconnecting the batt. for a few minutes?

I would do 15 minutes, so disconnect while you're removing the snorkus, recconect when finished!

Anyone have some pics of what part you are removing?!?
Im assuming the part before the airbox that goes into the fender???

Correct. It's a big ugly black box.

do you have to remove the fender to do this???
(too lazy and too cold to go look outside)

No negative effects, except I think the air filter gets dirtier a little quicker.

Didn't even bother with the reset. I was just happy removing some deadweight.

i had success with the operation and the reset. A lot of guys here will rag on the K&N filter for being 'psychological horsepower', but i use it to stop big shit like the road debris that got my tires, from getting in my intake. Paper does not inspire confidence, especially in the Upstate NY area.

Think again, K&N lets more junk through. It's not like it's really just one little sheet of paper.
Anyways, I never noticed that droning at idle. I think the culprit of that noise was the ribs in the intake piping.

I have done the Snorkus delete. I have been pleased with the results. I used a '93 EJ22 intake on a '99 Gen 2 EJ22. It works well. I did not do te reset and I will soon because every time it rains I get a #324 CEL. (That is a knock sensor, I might have the wrong code). No pictures but it is great! Oh yeah, love to idel hmmmm.

I had the same problem, the knock sensor may be cracked or just bad. You have your scoop open?

There is another way to reset the ECU if you don't want to disconnect battery. For example... if you have lots of stereo settings that you don't like reprogramming every time

Definetely do it, I put a K&N filter in there at the same time and past 3000RPMs at full throttle you can really hear the engine.
no problems yet and ive gone through some fair sized puddles.

And what were your reasons? Did you decide not to do it because of a reason, or are you just too lazy and haven't gotten to it? ;)

sound clip of the snorkusectomy at WOT. Sorry about the crappy camera work but driving, filming and shifting isnt easy. at about 90 km/h i let off the gas then floored it again just for some comparison

I haven't done it yet, but after seeing this thread I probably will. I've worried about water + stuff and getting in the airbox, but it doesn't look like that's really an issue.
I also haven't voted though.

I still can't get my snorkus out of the fender. :(
Running a long ram anyway.
And, don't owrry about getting water and stuff in the intake, unless you don't have the splashguards anymore. Then you should worry about it.

I can't pull the splash guard out far enough to remove it...
hah, no, I got both bolts out. Just don't have enough room to remove it. Next time it's up on a lift, I'm going to have whoever is working on it pull the darn thing out. And, before anyone says anything, I already lost a huge chunk of the fender liner trying to take it out before, it's brittle and i don't want to break it anymore.

All you do is jack up the car. Pull off the tire pull back or take off the liner. Shouldn't take more than 20-25 mins from jack up to putting away the jack.

I have a custom intake anyway so I didn't see the need to do it...
Unless I am mistaken?

You have to remove almost all the retaining bolts for the fender liner to pull it out far enough. The hardest part is not ruining those crappy plastic rivets that they use to primarily hold the fender liner in place. I stripped the heads out of most of them.
I'm also getting a buzzing noise now that I never had before. I attempted to re-install the snorkus, hoping it'd help my exhaust tone, but the snorkus was from a different year car and didn't fit. After I buttoned everything up I started to get a buzz from that area when I romp on it.

Heh. Well, when it gets a little warmer out, I'll pull the wheel off and pull the fender liner off. I did it before, it's just too cold out now, the plastic doesn't want to bend, instead it wants to tear or break. :(

Its really not that much work... All you have to do is pull down the splash guard the same as if you were changing out the fog light bulb, reach up and remove the (3?) bolts and pull the POS out... This is with the filter box and the small "L-shaped" ram piece removed. You will have to "convince" it to come out of that opening a bit though...
For reference, this was done on a 95 L, not sure if the GT or 97+ bumper shape prevents you from doing it this way.

I just ripped the snorkus out. Didn't even bother worrying about the 2nd bolt, or bending/ripping any plastic mounting holes. It's never going back on anyway.

I had no problems removing it from my 1995 L BK. My 1995 L was much newer when I removed it, though. The plastic didn't break when I pulled it down, that's the main reason I'm not going to do it yet. I did remove all of the metal and plastic bolts, too, it just wants to break, and I don't want to have to replace it. :(

OK.. so after reading all these posts, I decided to 'just do it'.
Removed it tonite... who was the guy that invented/engineered THAT anyway??!!??
Finished up by repairing/re-inforcing lower bumper mount so that splash guard would fit properly... trying to keep any large amounts of water / snow / dust out. It seems that my front end was hit at some point hard enough to tweak things, and it wasnt put back together perfectly straight. No surprise... the car has lots of scuffs / bumps from previous owner.
Snorkusectomy would have taken less than 1/2 hour..... MY total time, with other involved BS.... 1.5 hrs.
Didnt get a chance to drive it.... will experience it in the AM on the way to work I guess.

Someone said there is another way to reset the ECU instead of disconnecting the battery? Is there a fuse that can be removed?
