So I picked the Legacy up from the shop and was bringing it back home (my bro bought it off me). I hadn't driven it in a while and on the way back to my other house I stopped for breakfast with some friends. We got some snow yesterday and my friend who was being an idiot in the parking lot plowed his Jetta into the side of the Legacy.

Anyway so my friend is obviously paying for all repairs. Other than some minor stuff, the major is a complete replacement of the rear driver side door along with all components. How much do you guys think this will cost?

Can't give you much of an estimate without pics, can we?

I never drift near ANYTHING. That includes light poles in parking lots.

Yea, well he has a FWD piece of sh*t and has NO IDEA how to drive. I swear I'm probably more angry than I have been in quite some time.

Make sure he gives you a full paint job so the car matches.

Your car is silver. It's going to be real tough to get it to match correctly. Take it to a very good paint shop. They can probably blend the side of your car to match.

Probably to get it all done right your looking close to $800-1000. This includes the door from a junkyard and any of the interior bits you need and the hardest part, painting.

Not great but you will get the idea. Basically, I am taking it to the Subaru dealer to get it replaced + painted. I will follow their advice for repair. If its expensive then tough sh*t, I don't really care. His problem.

haha thanks for all your opinions on Jettas. I am not a fan of volkswagon.

But anyway back on topic, anyone have any cost ideas?

My guess was 1500-2000 if they have to repaint to match.

Get them to throw in a crank pulley as well :) , and a wheel alignment for good measure.

I had the entire driver's side of my car repainted, including a fender and door replaced, for like 1900 US dollars. But then again, this subaru maroon is not cheap paint.

And definitely try to get the alignment out of the guy.

Make sure he pays for it first, then, as Rob advised, BEAT his ASS. This is almost as important as a good paint job and would feel much nicer...

did you get an estimate to see if it can be fixed instead of replaced?

the door definately can't be fixed. It is cracked all the way through to the other side so they can't salvage components either. But the estimate for replacement is ~$1500

Be sure that estimate AT LEAST includes blending the paint into the surrounding panels. There's no way to really match the silver otherwise. I'd be able to put it past me if it was an accident with no way of helping it, but if it was done because the friend was being an asshat... :evil:

yea word. Well I am leaving it to my bro to decide since it is his car now. Estimate includes paint blendage. So we will see how it turns out :shock:
