My battery tie down seems to be rusting and leaving white powder on the battery. Does anyone have a tie down to part with or can suggest one to buy.....or should i make it myself. Alot of teh aftermarket ones are $40..a little pricy for a piece of metal.

If that's corrosion you're talking about, it's not the rusting doing it. It'd be the battery corroding the stuff. Rust is usually red/orange.
How're your contacts looking? They still clean?

Same problem here. The tie down looks nasty and has some powdery corrosion only near the back of the battery where it contacts the tie down. I believe you can buy tie downs at auto zone and such for $12. Nice aluminum ones too. They are in the muscle car section.

Easy fix. Remove tie-downs. Grind, sand off rust. Clean battery terminals with wire brush. Repaint tie-down.
Re-install.
Unless the metal is bent, rusted through or similar, the stock ones work fine, unless you're a show-goer.

Agree, make sure you clean the terminals real well and be sure the connection is still good. Cobb makes some nice battery tie downs, but they are $$$ (as usual).

I've got an ultra-heavy duty battery in my car, it's slightly too tall and the tie down was bent to fit it! At least I have 900 CCA... More than double my friend's civic's battery put out in it's best of days. :p

Once you fix the tie-down, get yourself and Optima battery.. never again will anything corrode!
I played my system full blast for 3 hours, and that little yellow battery just kept on going.. wow!

my BE does the same thing.. I noticed a small amount of corrosion building up on the battery tie-down, but nothing on the terminals..

Same thing, I'll take pics during weekend.
Try using a bit of baking soda to neutralize the leaked acid, then take a wire brush and some spraypaint to that tie-down.

I coulda done a better job on it but since its not an exterior part it'll do.

Yeah, they just tend to get like that. Mine wasn't corroded, but it had that same pattern of rust...

Ditto on mine. I just wiped it off and slapped it back on when I got a new battery a month ago.
