Please let me introduce myself: I'm a 34 year old german who owns a golden MY99 Legacy 2.5

I know almost everything about the Legacy models in germany, but almost nothing about Legacys in other countries - so this forum is a very interesting lecture for me :wink:

@Reason: my recommendation: A62 and A1 during the Rally Germany. Rent a EVO or a STI - you will have a lot of fun when driving to the stages :grin:

I don't know how to write a schaffes S or however you spell it. Its how I used to do it when I wrote german papers too. The same as I can't do umlauted letters so I add an "e" after that letter.

Just in case you want to write some german words, here are the funny characters for cut-copy-paste: Ä ä ( = Ae ) Ö ö ( = oe ) Ü ü ( = ue ) ß ( = ss - scharfes S means sharp S ) :wink:

Regarding the color: I have been told that there are only ~300 Legacy with this paint in germany. There is a special story behind: when the BE/BH was introduced, the importer ordered only golden cars - as a "marketing gimmick". It was hard for the dealers to sell the cars since the color is not very common. My car, for instance, was delivered to the dealer by the end of '98 but sold in August 2000.

Now I'm happy to own a seldom but affordable car with a quite good performance and quality.

No, not USDM.

It was used in the 98-2002 Legacies in Japan, Australia, New Zealand and some parts of Europe. More commonly found on the GT, GT-B and GTB.

Well ... on the other hand: America has the Legacy Turbo. In Europe only the BC/BCF Turbo was available. I seriously thought about importing a US-Legacy Turbo. In 2005 some people imported the 2.5 litre STI to europe since only the 2.0 version was available.

America missed out on the Legacy Turbo BD/BG and BE eras.
They get shafted even cosmetically - the lack of sidelights, watered down headlights...

It's getting better, but they still don't get the nicer exterior parts...

Small Update:

1) I mounted the 7x17Rims from the WRX MY07

2) The Legacy now runs on LPG (Liquid Gas) which becomes more and more popular in Germany.

The Diagrams show a Dyno that compares the Gasoline and LPG Power (Benzin = Gasoline, Gas = LPG). It shows that the Car has the same power on LPG than on Gasoline. This is because of a special LPG System which injects the Gas in the liquid state.

Looks great with the new wheels. Just a really cool car in general. Is bio-ethanol gaining momentum in germany? I know diesel is the big fuel over there.

Hi,

there are several alternative fuels:

- Liguid Gas / LPG / Autogas: 2600 fueling stations, becoming more and more popular (EUR 0,65 per liter)
- Compressed Natural Gas (Methane): sponsored by the large energy companies, car makers and government (especially our former cancellor Gerhard "Gas-Gerd" Schöder), but up to now there are only ~750 fuel stations (EUR 0,90 per kg - 1kg has the energy if 1,4 liter gasoline)
- Bio-Diesel (made from canola) - goverment found its too popular so they added taxes on it :mad: (EUR 1,10 per liter)
- Bio-Ethanol "E85": only a very few cars are available with E85 capability: Saab, Ford and now Volvo. (EUR 1,00 per liter)

The only fuel which gives you a significant cost reduction AND you have enough gas stations is LPG.

The advantage of Bio-Diesel and Bio-Ethanol is that you can mix it with normal fuel, but its not much cheaper that normal fuel.
95 Octane fuel: EUR 1,37 per liter -> $7,1 per gallon :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:

With LPG I have a cost reduction of ~40%, I think you understand :roll:

And yes: there are ~40% Diesel cars in Germany - the smell of soot on the autobahn :-? :smt071

Even more shocking: obviously Subaru wants to sell a diesel engine, too :shock:

Actually, the new diesel technology that's coming out has cleaner emissions than most gasoline engines. Yeah, the old diesels were dirty, but the new ones are supposed to be ULEV.
