Do we or do we not have them?

My owner's manual indicates the cabin filter as an option but offers no insight to where it would be.

If it did I think it's behine the glove box.

Yes you have them but not all legacys came with the filter installed. Imagine my surprise when I opened the filter cover and found a whole bunch of wet leaves instead of a filter. Its behind the glovebox and is a little pain to get to.

It took about 15 minutes to get to the filter slot in my BE.

A replacement filter is like $2trillion, if you don't have a filter, then you can probably cut up a filter for central heating systems and make your own.

How much is it really?

IIRC, at the stealership, they wanted $70 for it.

are you all talking about that round black thing under the passenger side of the dash. it got like a little motor that spins a white thing or some sort?

it's an oddly shaped panel filter that's about an inch thick.

subarugenuineparts.com lists the filter for $31: https://www.subarugenuineparts.com/prod ... ucts_id=83 (https://www.subarugenuineparts.com/product_info.php?cPath=31_44&products_id=83)

Is it a sure thing that if my car is not equipped with a filter adding one requires nothing more than the filter itself? Any retaining/sealing implements are already in place?

Correct, just plug and play. To get to it however you will need to remove the panel on the right side of the shifter as well as the glovebox if i remember correctly. There are two pieces to the filter that are placed ontop of each other in the slit.

Bingo, and you can get it for like half the price that the stealership will steal from you for it.

Once you get the glove box out, it takes like 30 seconds to install it. You just need a screwdriver, and some patients.

The hospital is a mile from my house so I've got that covered

Serious though, do the BD's have this or just BE's and up?

BD's don't have a cabin filter.

*Decides to give the hospital some more clients*

Yeah, I was looking for info on the BD/BK's, to see if/where they go, and they don't. At least my BK doesn't recycle smells like my BE did. If someone ate a burger in the car, it would be scent free for a few days, then it would start smelling like burger again, then it would smell like taco bell, then like burgers, then like febreeze. Then it would smell like burgers again. I used compressed air in the place the CAF goes, and after that, it stopped recycling smells, thankfully.

That wouldn't be a cabin filter problem unless you had it on recirculating air...even then, I'm not sure. I would think the cabin filter is only to filter outside air and take out the pollen and such.

A colleague from the german Subaru forum found out that the filters from the Ford Mondeo (MUCH cheapter - at least here in germany) can be cut to fit into the plastic frames of the Leagcy filter:

http://freenet-homepage.de/geraldwandt/PF1.JPG

BUT you have to have a used filter to distract the plastic frames...
