Does anyone know if the brake line has to be disconnected (and therefore bled) when going from stock struts to GR-2s?

Trying to avoid an unnecessary mess if possible.

It does, but there's a trick to it. I remember reading about it on Nasioc.

Our legacies have their brake lines run through a hole on a tab of metal on the stock struts. You can CAREFULLY saw through the tab with a drimmel, bend it back, and slide the brakeline off the strut. To put it on the GR-2's, there is an open c-tab that you can slide the line in and zip tie it in place.

Thanks Dave!

I figured that was the case. :)

just happy i can return some small amount of knowledge to the community for its support.

Also, because i got the GR-2's for a WRX, the guy that put the struts on with me had the WRX brakeline clips, so mine are clipped in with less ghetto.

If you check out subiesport.com they have an article on suspension mods on their Black Beast. They put in coilovers and actually cut through that tab with a powered hacksaw! If I did that I'd cut the brakelines for sure!

haha yea. I wasn't nervous letting the other guy do it though, he had stainless steel brakelines lying on his workbench--he said if he cut mine, he'd throw those on.

I hate bleeding brakes so I just cut the tab on our project legacy as someone stated above. Air-powered hack-saw FTW!!!

Tie the lines back to keep them out of the way or have someone help you, just go slow and take your time.
