View Full Version : JDM vs USDM tails

Some of us were talking about water down USDM parts vs the rest of the market.

The left is the JDM and right is the USDM. There's not much of a difference, but the brake light on the USDM spec doesn't have a reflector. Just little things like that through out the car makes a difference.

USDM tails also look like ass compared to the simpler color scheme of the JDM tails.

Moreso on wagons, but still...

Its always about the wagons with you isn't it

That's interesting that there would be a difference like that...

Reason,

What kind of LEDs are those and do they light up the entire light or just a dinky little bit like on those rice honda's I see?

+1 on that question. I always thought it would be cool to convert normal light bulbs into LED holders, because LEDs are MUCH brighter, and nicer looking. I was thinking about doing that for my interior lights as well! Where did you get them?

Let's just say when the are out of the case and you look at them they hurt your eyes.

Well (at least on the 2nd gen) the sedan's tails had solid white on the trunklid. The wagons had an amber portion on both sections with a little white interruption (for the reverse light of course) in the middle of it. No flow whatsoever.

I see some GM cars with just red & white taillights and the white shows amber. I don't see why subaru couldn't do it. I also see a heck of a lot of Kias that shine completely white in the front and back for the turn signal

I was just busting on you a bit...

I have seen similar to what you are talking about on the Kia's.. except it does have a slight tint of yellow. Not enough for me to consider it amber though.

It's the shitty plastic that they use- it loses its pigment when it sits in the sun too long.

I have the UKDM tails and they have 3 bulbs, i'll get pictures up soon, go UK if ya can, wire harness is the same that you plug into your USDM ones, but the way the plastic piece that clips in with the reflectors and bulbs on it is wired different, you'll see soon.

It looks like there was a reflector in your US lights, but was removed, cause there's a place for it and a plastic welding that held it in place. :-?

Those LED bulbs don't work well with Legacy tails. I tried all kinds of them in my BC and when the bulbs are located parallel to the lense (like in BCs and BDs) , they're just crap, especially for brake lights.
I think the LED bulbs work perfect when mounted perpendicular and surrounded with reflector.

I wanted the LEDs in tails so I walked farther and threw such PCBoards in, every with 61 leds and working in hi and low modes.

Your UKDM have 3 bulbs, cause they have separate bulbs for brake and tail light. The other 2 lamps on the trunk are the fog lights. EDM rules !

I never removed it, I doubt the previous owner did.

The LED's I have don't work well? Your crazy, they lit the tail end better than my 50watt bulbs I had in there.

As for EDMs I would get those if I could and sell my JDMs

Thanx!! :)
Well I bought 6 such taillights, they are for trucks, from an ebayseller named tmiledtechnology. The lights were on sale for about $10 each. Just a bargain :)
And then I had to slighty modify them and the tails, quite lot of work but it turned up great, maybe I should make a writeup :?:
I gonna install teh last two into the trunk lights.
