Sup guys

New here and had some questions.

I'm waiting on a 97-99 legacy gt right now, and would like to shop for upgrades on suspension immediatly. All the other upgrades will come later on. I figured it would be a lot easier for me to shop for parts if I can look for impreza parts as well.

I would like to know if suspension parts & short shifters are compatible.

What are compatible and uncompatible aftermarket parts between the 2.5rs and legacy gt?

Thanks,

Chris

Most yes, all engine parts, I'm not sure about suspension. Someone else here will know.

Awesome quoting job! :D

Short shifters are more or less universal. I'd suggest an adjustable shifter, incase you don't like supershort, or you want super short.

As for suspension, most bits should be swappable. Make sure to doublecheck, though, and if you get a L GT Wagon, make sure that any suspension bits are intended for an Impreza Wagon, if you get a L GT Sedan, then get impreza sedan parts.

The Legacy GT and the Impreza use the same motor and transmission, more or less, suspension can be tricky. Headers intended for an NA Impreza will most likely fit your soon to be Legacy GT.

The Kartboy short shifter works in my 97 Legacy Outback, I'm sure it'll work with your GT. I got the shifter/knob/bushing package and love it. Install was pretty easy and the difference is amazing.

Also, SubySport is doing a LGT buildup right now. Click Here (http://mag.subiesport.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=40&Itemid=41) to read the suspension build article.

As far as I know the RS tranny and GT tranny is the same thing.

Beware- the 99-01 RS is not the same thing as the 98 RS and the 97-99 GT. It has the PhaseII Ej25 and has a MAP sensor as well as several different sensors from the PhaseI that would make the engine much less of a bolt on affair. You would have to swap the ECU and possibly splice the harness (or add onto it).

Is it true that a Outback 18mm rear sway bar gives less under steer/pushing to a Legacy GT sedan?

Well, I'm not sure you phrased that question correctly, but I'll give my best answer:

The outback 18mm swaybar is thicker than your LGT (15mm?) bar. It stiffens up the rear end quite a bit. it doesn't "give less understeer" as you put it, but it does encourage a little more oversteer.

GT sedan already should have an 18mm rear sway bar.
If not, then USA got jacked AGAIN.

If I am wrong, then yes, a thicker bar will tend the car to MORE oversteer, but not necessarily less understeer.

ie. it'll be easier to kick the tail out, but the car will still understeer as a natural characteristic of the vehicle suspension.

:-( We did.

With my 18mm rsb I noticed the front end plows at first (understeer) then hooks and then it goes willy nilly over steer.

I either snapped one of the bolts or it shimmied loose with the multiple blizzards we got here in CO though...

yup, even the be/bh cars got shafted out of a bigger rsb.

Does it feel like 18mm? That may answer your question.

Doesn't feel like any mm to me, compared to my 97 BD it feels liek it has one, but I'm not sur eif that's just the difference in the suspesion or not. I'll have to look tomorrow.

Oh, gotcha.

Your LS had a 12mm bar though.

I still think the GT was a 15mm bar.

Hey, I resemble that comment!

When upgrading to an 18 mm RSB, is it good to upgrade the front as well? Knowing me, I'd be perfectly at home with a 22 mm rsb.

Not sure, I've seen them mentioned on nabisco. Usually, to get 22 mm, you have to get adjustable...
