Subaru Camping mobile?

I'd like to take my Subie camping. Basically, fold the rear seats down and just sleep in the car itself, since it's rather cold out right now.

Does anyone do this, and do you have a special setup for it, or just fold down the rear seats and sleep in the car?

Ive slept 5 people in my moms outback before :lol:

Hell, even in my sedan theres enough room to sleep two in the back and two in the front.

BTW, cars aren't that warm and are poorly ventilated in comparison to other camping stuff

True. Sleeping bag is a must, and you'll wake up to steamy windows.

A twin matress fits perfectly in the back of my BH with simply the rear seats folded. Mind you I am 6 feet tall, and it is a bit of a squeeze as far as length. At the last club meet of our local Subaru club I was debating if I wanted to sleep in my car or not - I wish I had as a rainstorm hit that night and I hardly slept a wink with the tent thrashing around and water dripping on me all night. Next time I will swipe one of the matresses out of my sons bunkbed and stay dry/warm in the quiet of the car (though not much privacy and bright with sunrise).

I've slept in the back of my wagon before, folded the seats flat, and actually kept the rear cargo cover pulled, so I put my head under that - that kept the sunshine out of the way, and with some good thermal blankets, you can actually be pretty comfortable.

Well, more comfortable that lying on the ground.

My sleeping bag is almost too warm. Thanks for mentioning mattress, I'm going to look into something lightweight...

Well, I went camping with a friend, and our tent flooded (literelly). I had the sedan without folding rear seats, so we had to drive home. We got flooded out at like 1 am, and it was a 4 hour drive home... Well, it took 4 hours to get to the camping site from home, it took me like 2 hours to get back. :D

Cargo cover is a neat idea, I'll keep that in mind. :)

I'll get a box for firewood and cooking impliments as well. Sounds like I'm almost set for a trip now!
