um let me put it this way the car needs new suspension, new driver seat, new block, new fender, new paint job, new exhaust system, new floor mats, new right cv shaft, not to mention counless hours of labor to do all of that, if the previuos owner kept maintaining the car properly it would've ran longer. and dont tell me that i could've made more that is just wrong the dealer didnt even look at the car they just looked at the mileage and that was it but the car was overheating when i pulle dinto his parking lot. but as i sad any1 interested try talking to them maybe they will sell it cheap
the car is at
Ira Dodge
104 Mystic ave
Medford MA
plus i got a good deal on the H6 9k for 02 outback with 86k on it.

haha, if it wasnt for the date and the milage I would swear that was the one I bought. $1k is pretty good from a dealer, at auction I would be suprised if it did that much. At least in NY no new car dealer would try to resell anything like that because of the milage, lemon laws make it way to easy to screw the dlr over, not to menton give them a bad name.

I've always kinda liked the Outback sedans (except for the wheels and grille)

Nice buy!

I've never really liked the OEM spoiler on the BE body's. I'd love to find just a lip that runs along the trunline similar to the BMW M3/M5s but I haven't really looked at what's out there for fear of wanting something lol.

Does the bra remove and install easily?

dodik
03-07-2007, 01:59 PM
less than 2 min to remove 10 min to install if you know what to do

Wouldn't do that if I were you, those things damage your paint.

Was only going to use it for long road trips in an effert to help protect it. In a couple of months I'll likely be driving a lot more.

I actually hate them lol

dodik
03-08-2007, 08:37 AM
dont know much about cobb cai and im making one myself for this thing
and car bra doesnt damage your paint if you read instructions and follow them when installing=== wax your car before putting bra on!!! my friend has it on his corolla for like two years now and no problems with paint!!
And im keeping it in my garage just in case i need it.

Huffer
03-08-2007, 09:25 AM
The leather car bra actually traps moisture underneath. It's like a giant sweatsuit.

It isn't harmful if it's removed each time the car is washed, and washed and treated itself, but most people don't bother.

pdawg
03-08-2007, 01:25 PM
I thought the RSB was like 18 mm on those things already. Replacing with a 19" seems like a waste.

dodik

not really hard but tedious just takes some time to completely dissasemble the units and then carefully very carefully pull it off. Stereo one was easy hvac was a bitch to put back on. oh and they are just glued in place.

Well, the grille is cut up, awaiting final sanding, and bondo. The dremel was easier but took longer than the hack saw did on my last project. I broke 3 medium-grade cutting disks.

Shifter knob - why not install the regular "5spd" knob from a WRX, the neck would be longer and might fit the look a bit better. You could always shave a bit off the top and sink it lower.

Or maybe the STI "piston" titanium style knob would work better with the silver accents.

yeah the painting was so unprofesional and wrong its not even funny, i went outside to try to bend that left front fender to its original place (i've been hit) and as i was doing it weather kinda warmed up got to be around 40 and sunny so i figured i'd give it a try so i cleaned put overlays on then cleaned and masked all around put a coat of primer let it barely dry for like ten min maybe and put a few coats of paint. they are still on after a week and not peeling off, but since temps were that low im not gonna go to car was for about a month because paint to fully cure will take a while. im still uncertain how tough these vynils are im pretty suer they gonna peel eventually. for now they look ok considering i spend 1 hour doing it.

Oh, how I miss big six's! I went from 4 liters to 2.2, to 3.5, and then back to 2.2. Oh well, good gas mileage rocks!!!

Damn, can't a guy think that a certain exhaust diameter is big in this fine, free nation?

It depends a lot on the engine design itself...for instance a vq35 out of a 300z won't have the same exhaust requirements as a Vulcan OHV V6 out of a taurus.

2.5" maybe good enough, there's also 2.75" that some shops stock, but 3" probably wont have any big consequences other than the added-on price...

so i finally scored some cheap tires and decided its time to fix the wheels and do something to the car,
i got wheels mad cheap all for under 65 bucks so dont flame on offset and condition of them, (they were all curb rashed ). i decided to fill all the scratches with 2500psi jbweld that bonds to aluminum, i figured it'd be better than body filler. and here are some pics.

Looks great, the scratch repair looks damn near professional.

For rim straightening, I've used these guys, they're pretty cheap, I think they charged me $80 when they repaired a bend on one of my rims.

there's also a couple of places in CT that I've been recommended or had experience with, but they're both around $100/wheel for repair.

haven't seen any rubbing yet and definitely ride is more responsive, although i do feel a little tramlining, i think it will rub just a tiny ity bit at full lock fully loaded doing u turn downhill ( don't ask me how i came to that conclusion but it looks like it should rub while it doesn't). and for reference size is 18x7.5 with +40 wrapped in 245/45/18 Micheline alpines.
it still rugged i mean tires are m+s, its just city rugged

the tramlining is normal when you go to wider tires, especially the stickier the tires get. Where are you rubbing? I want to run some wider tires w/ a different offset but haven't check clearances yet. Looks good though, I bet you don't even feel a thing when you run over a hobo  (urban offroading?)

dodik
04-06-2009, 08:49 AM
like i said it doesnt rub anywhere but i've only put 200 miles on them mostly highway, and my stock size is bigger than yours Ben so i have no idea how wide you can go. back in a day silent got a set of tires that were equivalent of my stock size and they rubbed on his old BE, i have more clearance between spring perch. oh and its all about offset and width if you calculate(guesstimate) it properly you'll be fine, although i doubt you can go to 245 without rubbing

I know a couple of guys have been able to use 245's, but I think I would need to switch to coilovers, also need to roll the back fender and dail in some more neg camber...anyway that's a project for the future.

If you want to check clearance you can always raise both wheel, put a jack under the control arm and compress the strut a bit...you can see where you can potentially rub.

genuine ebay leather scraps lol, the bottom one was called stallion black and top one i dont remember but i think its some sort of nubuck leather, took some patience and i got too many needle holes in my fingers but it looks decent and feels awesome, i got a few bits of leather left over so if you arent needing your old wheel let me know i may do one more to see if i can make it better.

Sorry mate, it might be those black rubber bumpstops you have attached front and rear, they give the car a much bulkier look than the image in your avatar. Try removing them and fitting a slimline police style nudge bar up front and tow ball on the back. Well i found the asshole who did it. it is a black 02 Hummer that got it's damaged fixed the only sing of accident left on it is a f.....d up license plate that left all of its paint on my bumper. my insurance didnt do a thing so i had to find her insurance company myself and i filed a claim with them. The catch is the asshole keeps ignoring her insurance company calls and letters so they can't get in touch with her and untill they do i cant get my money. so i am kinda in limbo right now just waiting. cops can't do crap the only thing i can do if they refuse to pay is file a claim with dmv after i receive a denial letter from her insurance co. till then i cant sue and even then i really have no proof that it was her except for the note. on a good side i finally bought black interior to replace all the beige crap and it will go in after i get the car repainted.

those tire are too small and are up fs 225/40/18 im going to throw a set of 245/45/18 on them that i have from the other set of 18's i have. im going to redo the suspension maybe next year again as i am really pushing it now in straight line i got about 1/4" max between tire and lower spring perch so under some heavy driving it rubs a bit. going to throw gr-2s outback specific next time around no more legacy struts for me.

wow im surprised this thread is bumped

well i got tired of all this insurance legal battle crap so i decided to fix it myself last weekend i managed to pull most of the damage out with a hammer and a 2x4, so i got the tail light back in. tomorrow im getting my stud welder and yesterday i bought body hammer set. This saturday im going to finish the exterior i doubt my paint is going to come in the mail on time so i'll just leave it primed till next week. if everything goes smoothly then next weekend interior will go in.

FUC*ING insurance!!

I am happy to hear you want to do some body work! Keep in mind that primer isn't a sealer.. So if your going to wait more then 2 weeks for your paint I would take off the primer and respray before paint goes back on. ;-D

Cheers

yeah i know that primer is porous and if my color matched spray paint isnt here tomorrow i'll use some cheap walmart stuff to seal until i get my stuff or if i find a sealer in a spray can ill use it above bondo/primer

so here is somewhat update it came out not too bad considering all the shops told me that i need new quarter panel. all work was done by hand tools mostly hammers entire tail area was caved in it still not quite there but i figured i will repaint the whole car next year so i'll live with this for now.

well i did it, and never ever again in my life will i buy a car with the wrong interior color. I managed to swap the interior from beige/tan to black/grey. i'd rather replace an engine then do this crap again. I replaced dash, console, all pillar trims, door sills, also recovered headliner and rear panel in new fabric, swapped locks in glove boxes, swapped vin plates, light sensor hole had to be cut in. all together took me about 10-12 hours in just above freezing temps. i've done bunch of things with cars/bikes in years but i have never felt this busted after all. by the way you WILL have to wait for pics for a day or two till i clean up all the mess thats left over.

chuckthefuk

How thick did you lay the bondo? How does the trunk line up / tail light?

Bondo is not forgiving specially in the cold..

-Chuck

dodik
12-06-2010, 11:02 AM
i laid it pretty thick at first to get body lines at least somewhat to resemble original shape maybe 3/8" or so but then took it down to like 1/8" iirc the thickest is around 1/8" but this is just to get me over the winter, as soon as i find straight quarter panel im welding it in. but yeah paint, primer, bondo do not work well in 50 degree weather

lol, dont get discouraged its actually not that bad after pain goes away, (i can feel my fingers now), if you do this in warmer weather and not rush like if you have two or three days it will not be that bad. Doing this in summer or spring with longer warmer days would be much easier and less painful. also i spend a lot of time doing headliner and rear deck, if you want to reupholster make sure you get 4-way stretching fabric, i got 2 way which made it much more difficult to glue in. i still need to redo my door cards, repaint all trim pieces around radio overhead lights, redo sunroof cover and find a grey/black sunroof ring trim, redo my visors, just bought a better stereo so that will be done soon, and then get new carpet. i also forgot if you buy used seat belts make sure tensioner isnt poped mine is so i need to locate black seatbelts as well.

Might be, tough on the Stop sign thing, if you go to a mechanic school or any metal workshop you could get it bent accurately as long as you got the measurments.
I took a big plate of 2mm steel and made a tub for coolant draining yesterday using only the plate-bender and 4 quick Mig-welds.
