CANNOT remove rear lower strut bolts.

UPDATE:

I got the front struts/ springs on. No problem at all. As for the rears... Freaking IMPOSSIBLE. For the life of me (and my neighbor) we could not get this damn lower bolt off. We were using a breaker bar. It just doesn't budge. I'm amazed we didn't break a socket. I'm completely bewildered. Here are some pics:


Is this just one big through bolt? Or is it two seperate bolts? We tried loosening from both sides. Is it possible that it's reverse threaded? I see no reason why it would be.

Does anyone have any ideas what's going on? Would an electric impact wrench be a good idea? Would it even have enough torque? Should I just take it to PepBoys (the only shop with a service dept. opened tomorrow) and have them finish the job? ARGG. This is frustrating.

PB Blaster and do some push ups. Seriously I don't know, try the impact gun.

Pop the rotor off and go at it with an impact gun. :) Stop on by and I will loosen er up for you... :roll:

Unfortunately no. I'm probably gonna take the car into Precision Tune tommorrow and see if they'll loosen it for me so I can finish the job.

Also, how hard is it to remove the brake rotor?

did you try jiggling the wheel hub back and forth and having a friend try to pull or loosen the bolt?

Well, I tried jacking the hub slightly, didn't seem to make a difference.

+1 on the pb blaster.. and let it sit overnight, or at least for a little while.. also try the breaker bar with an even bigger bar on it and then try using your body weight.. if that dont work, maybe just take it to the shop to have them crack the bolt and then put it back on... but that might be more work then just unleashing furious anger on it! :evil:

also maybe try getting a bigger wrench and putting it on the backside bolt and wedged up against the ground so that it doesnt move at all?!

Should just be a regular bolt. I'd let it soak overnight with PB blaster or liquid wrench, then hit it with the biggest breaker bar you can find tomorrow.

If you have access to a torch heating it up will also help, as will shocking it by pounding on the breaker bar with a BFH (Big F'ing Hammer).

Failing that, find someone with air tools and let them have at it.

would it be ill-advised to glob some anti-seize on the bolt so the next time would not be so painful?

lol yea right, when I was changing my exhaust I used PB blaster early that day. I brought it to my buddies shop to burn the bolts of with a torch. HAha I forgot about it, he went and burned the bolt a huge flame was underneath the car. :lol:

I use PB with a torch very often, and have never had a flame that wouldn't go out on its own in a couple of seconds. I use it on everything from the exhaust manifold on my turbo DSM (that glows red at night :)) to suspension pieces.

Yes it does burn, but a wet rag will usually put the flame out no problem.

I was standing right there. Once he put that torch on the bolt a flame shot out and he screamed "shit!" and dove out of there. He said the flame shot though the whole exhaust channel. I seen the flame shot past his legs from under the car.
