What years does a 2.2 come from?

Was looking at a car on ebay and it was a 1997 but had a "newer" 2.2 with 88,000 miles on it.

Phase I was 90-98, and phase II was 99 (on the Legacy, 99-01 on the Impreza)

What "car" are you talking about? A Legacy? An outback?

Sounds like it might be a phase II. Maybe a Phase I replacement ordered and installed recently?

Well, in 97 the EJ22 was changed up a bit. It got solid lifters, single port exhaust, and a higher CR caused by a change in the shape of the valves, which consequently caused the engine to become an interference engine.

The Phase II Legacy came in 99 and 00.

There was no EJ22 in 2000. 99 Only on the legacy. 99-2001 on the impreza.
