Hi !!

I'm driving a GT Wagon BH5. I'm thinking of retuning my ECU. Firstly before I do that, I need to get a spare BH5 ECU. Is BG5 ECU same as BH5's ? It sounded not much of a difference....anyway. Need your expertise.

Back to tuning, is remapping the original ECU a recommended solution or should I be looking at some other after market products ?

Chip

I'm guessing you have the single turbo GT wagon?

In which case, you should probably go with a piggyback comp like a Link - or some other that has a GOOD tuner supporting it in your area.

ECU reflashes on the older ECUs don't work out so well.

Hi Huffer,

May I know what is the differences between the ECU reflash compared to piggyback ? Any new feature provided with the piggyback ? I understand that piggyback will only overide the readings from sensor back to ECU thus giving the ability to change the settings.

That's basically it - a reflash will give you a new base map, that the ECU will then use to actively learn the appropriate fuel/timing curves. The upside is that it's plug n play. The downside is that if the reflashed base map has problems, then the car will never run in an optimum fashion.

A piggyback will allow for more finetuning, and will allow for a return to stock approach if required. The upside is that if your mods get more extensive, you can look into retuning with another ECM. The downside is that piggybacks are harder to install initially.

Ideally you should determine your modifications, and then determine your ECM solution. Not the otherway around.
