I am a wheelchair user thinking of getting a new Outback, Forester or maybe a Tribeca. Is there any way to put in a suspension that would lower down to transfer, then rise up to normal to drive? ...Thanks

Airbag suspension.

Airbag, or hydraulic would probably work. Although im not really sure ive seen any hydraulic setups for these cars.. but im sure if you look into it hard enough you could find something, or get something custom built. Airbags are definitely a possibility though, and would work for that.

That praxis system looks pretty cool. I wonder if they make it for the BD series.

You can actually retrofit if you want - the weight of the cars is fairly close, and I have spoken with a Praxis engineer (they are based in Akron, OH). They'll provide the technical know-how to any shop that wants to retrofit into a different vehicle.

Certain 90-94 legacy's had airbag suspension. I don't know how hard it would be to find suspension from these cars in decent shape. Airbags would provide a pretty rough ride I imagine.

Air bags, yes. But Cadillac and Buick have been running air shocks for 10 years now. The provide a very smooth ride, but very little road feel.

Actually, you'd be surprised. Some of the newer systems are actually used in performance applications. And remember, if there is very little road feel in a Caddillac or Buick, it's probably because it's a Cadillac or Buick.

Air suspension is not what it used to be...

they are used in performance apps. for a few years now...

IIRC the BC/BF legacys had air ride suspension with a raise and lower button (but this only raised and lowered the front by a few inches)

Well that's pretty sweet, application specific!
