Hi all-
Well, I just purchase a 95 Legacy L wagon on Monday as my new daily-driver. 140k miles, well-maintained, some dings but no rust, really dirty interior with worn-out driver's seat, and broken passenger mirror. $1600.

This is not my first subaru, however. I have had (listed chronologically by my ownership):
2002 WRX Wagon
2003 WRX Sedan w/V7 STI swap
2001 RS w/JDM WRX swap (still own, see avatar)
1993 Loyale wagon, AT
1993 Loyale wagon, MT
1995 Legacy wagon, AT (still own)

I do most of the simple wrenching myself, but I'm not above calling in a pro when needed.

I'm looking forward to posting on SL-I. Mainly, I'd like to know what budget mods I can do to improve the L's handling. I don't need a world-beater (I do have the RS), just looking to sport it up a little. Suggestions welcome!

Thanks!
-Brad

What kind of budget we talking here?

First thing I would do - Whiteline rear "easy release" strut brace.
2nd thing - Outback or GT wagon rear swaybar (18mm minimum)
3rd thing - new set of tires
4th thing - replace struts and springs with Whiteline springs & KYB GR-2s

Good bangs for bucks there.

Welcome, usually someone jumps on it, looks like it's my turn. Hit up the DIY section, you can find some cool mods the members completed and did a write up.

I put a Outback swaybar on my car. It helped a lot. 16" rims are also a huge improvement over the 14" that came with mine.

No more WRXs, just the 01 RS and the 95 wagon.

Uh... limited. I could probably do #1 - #3 on your list, but would have to wait on #4. The RS still needs a few things too!

I agree. I honestly felt a bit guilty when they accepted. In my defense, the interior was FILTHY! Oh, and the dome light was out.

Thanks-
Brad

was? Does that mean it's not anymore?

Welcome to SLi

I had a 95 L and just going from 14" wheels to a wider 16" wheel package made a rather large improvement in handling. I believe it was from a 185 width to a 205 width (205/50-16).

That upgrade can be pricey in itself. I think I had a little over $900 invested in the rims and tires when they were finally installed, and that was on the cheap end of the spectrum...

Yeah, I cleaned the interior (mainly clutter and seeds... yes, seeds) and replaced the dome bulb. I've literally never seen an interior that messy. Just as an example, I found 37 pens in there. Come summer I'll still need to steam clean the interior, but it is good enough for now.

I'll probably upgrade the wheels for the RS and toss the RS wheels on the wagon, unless I find a cheaper option.

Keep me in mind, depending on distance I could trade you some WRX 16" + cash for the RS wheels.

Thanks for the offer, but I think I should hang onto the RS wheels.
