difference between usdm and jdm mudflaps?

hey guys i see that a lot of people want jdm mud flaps... just wondering what the big to-do is about them lol... thinking of possibly getting rid of mine in a little while

higher trim JDM cars don't have mud flaps - they have spats. Flaps are flexible, spats aren't.

If you have some for the same year as me 99, or can get some.. i might be interested.. because im SICK of mud getting all over my car in the winter season. I know it cant be helped.. but maybe i can cut down a bit. Its weird.. i see some Legacies in the same year as mine around here with mudflaps, and wonder why my GT LTD did not come with them. =/


edit : so im assuming yours are spats.. because they look different that the ones people have around here?

the USDM GT didn't come with that "aero" extension, again they cheaped out.

Just buy some cheapo mudflaps like I did and modify them to fit. I love mine and they were supposed to be a winter only mod but have become a fulltime deal.

Where you buy yours from? Got any pics? Do they get in the way at all? Or look weird? I saw some generic subaru ones on ebay a while back.. looked kinda cool. How many screws do they attach to the bumper with?

Just buy the truck ones, and they come with screws. Drill and fit.

Do those jdm ones actually block any mud and stuff? Seems like they are pretty small for mud / rock blocking purposes.

Well I'm sure they aren't made for off roading. Is there any "off roading" spots in Japan? When I think of Japan I think of tall buildings, ninjas and cool JDM parts.

Pepboys, held on by two bolts, cut a little to make them flex into the space right, and then one extra automotive fastner added, like plastic screw, no problems. They scrape on occasion but its not a big deal, they were like 25 bucks for everything.

Oooh those are nice, what kind are they? Hard plastic? I have the hard plastic truck ones on the minivan...does wonders for keeping gunk off the sides.

I want some for the Legacy but with the limited ground clearance, my options are limited. Rock chips are getting annoying on the side of my car :twisted:

I know - I used them as an example of what we are talking about. Plus they may actually fit the car in question (with some minor modifications) - depends on the shape of the sill covers.
