hey all.

next upgrade step, i've decided, is going to be some new brakes. Inexpensive + good = my ideal time, so i'm choosing the WRX fronts/H6 rears.

What are some decent prices you've seen for these guys? Through salvage yards, for a 2004 Wrx set, the brakes seem to run about $50 for each rotor and $50 for each caliper. $200 fronts doesn't sound horrible, but I have nothing to compare this cost to.

What have others paid for theirs?

Thanks

mike

$200 is about what I paid for mine, but note I got new rotors and EBC greens with that.

damn. that sounds much better...

as i'm looking at it and referring back to cars101;

my2000+ legacy's had the 11.4" rears, and the newer foresters had the WRX sized fronts...so i can probably get them cheaper than i thought...alwasys nice.

I'll work out the pads and SS lines when i get the goods....hopefully will be putting them under new wheels when it gets warmer.

joy!!!

Just remember, you need 16" rims for these brakes...

Just remember to keep an eye out on NastySoCk or rs25; there's some people that occasionally sell their WRX fronts due to an upgrade.

Shipping usually costs around $50-60 for the whole deal (calipers, rotors, etc). It's like 50lbs. worth of metal in there.

Looks like I'll be upgrading the front brakes sometime this March, so my wrx brakes will be up for sale sometime after that

i'm a patient kid, i'll wait til i find a good deal.

right now it's all about getting a resonator in my new exhaust before people start rolling down their windows for the warm air. they won't like the farting from my car. pure rasp when i pull off the accelerator abover 3400rpms.

OT, anyone know of a quality resonator? thanks

mike

also..i've got the stock 16" GT wheels, but I'll be moving to bigger this summer.

That sounds about right for prices from the salvage yard, but if you wait around on nasioc you may be able to pick them up cheaper, I think I paid $120 for my WRX fronts (calipers, pads, rotors w/ 5k on them).

For the rears, you can get cheap rotors from advance auto / autozone. The calipers themselves are the same, just the brackets are different. When I did mine I just ordered the H6 loaded calipers and turned in my stockers for the core.

I paid $80 for 03 rotors, pads, calipers, and brackets. Just gota wait around until someone really wants to get rid of them.

lgt brakes are pretty decent. Are you experiencing fade? Have you tried some street/track pads? They make a huge difference.

If you're just looking to throw bling parts on the car, go ahead, but if you're looking for function, the stock ones are probably up to the task.

no bling involved, sir.

i'm hoping to do some auto-x this year, so i'm in the process of upgrading brakes (rotors, pads, calipers, fluid), wheels/tires, and sway bars. everything else will be bought new, but i figured i could save a bit on some good condition brake goodies.

I'll have some 03 front rotors here for sale pretty soon. Just turned less than 3k on them.

sorry for the threadjack,
but on my 97 GT wagon, do I have similar brakes to the WRX's in the front???

at advanced auto, the rear rotors were the same part number for my97 lgt as a 2004 WRX... so I assume the rears are close...

Just wondering what an "upgrade" would be from the GT stuff...

I am talking WRX fronts. After I get them off I'll have them checked for warping. I hope to get them off by next Sunday if not sooner.

From what I've read we have the same calipers as the WRX. Our brackets and rotors are different though. The WRX rotor is slightly larger and therefore requires a WRX caliper bracket.

The rear rotor size is the same, but both our calipers and brackets are different.

An upgrade for the rears would be the H6 upgrade. That or you can just source a set of 4 pots from an 06 WRX. I'd go that route.

BD LGT brakes are 10.7", WRX/02-04 LGT's are 11.4" fronts. Rears are 10.x" for WRX's and BD LGT's. 00-04 Legacys got 11.7" rears (the H6 upgrade).

All that changed were rotor and bracket sizes, still retained double piston front, single back.

My WRX fronts and H6 rears are available now. I haven't boxed them up or cleaned them yet.

But I noticed your location. I have a high school friend who lives in Boise. I'm trading him my tablesaw for his chopsaw. I was thinking of making a road trip out there.

I don't know how soon you are looking. I probably wouldn't head out there for a couple months or so.

i'm definitely interested in the h6 rears...2pot, right?

purchased the wrx fronts about 2 weeks ago and am waiting for the h6ers to get them installed.

pm me about prices and when you'll be here!!!

btw, i'd love to check out another legacy. i don't see any non-stockers around here.

H6 = 1 pot.

If you want to apply the 2 pot brakes from an 06 WRX,you'll need brackets from Kartboy to adapt the 2 pots to the bigger rotor.
