tanny help

i have a 99 gt automatic. it takes a moment (10-45seconds) to go in to drive, but when i put it in reverse it works fine. once it goes into drive its fine, i can push it hard and every gear changes smoothly. what could this be?

Sounds like an abused trans to me. Mileage? When the last time the fluid was changed?

change the trans oil/filter...

this is EAZY to do!!! DONT pay someone to do this for you... as long as you have a jack or ramps, this will take you less than an hour easy... no skills required... its EXACTLY the same as changing your motor oil on all scoobys Ive changed... just a spin off filter and a drain plug...

it has 102,000 miles on it, i havent changed tranny fluides or anything on it cause i was told "if i put new oil in it, it can make it worse". i dont really drive the car my girl does so its not beat at all.

I hate it when people talk about "well, I dont wanna change it, because the stress from the new stuff is gonna mess up something!" (not you, the person who told you that)

first off, where did anyone that ever said that go for automotive training? Dales Auto Repair out in the middle of nowhere!!! lol

anyways, I would just pull the drain plug, drop the filter, put a new filter on, put the plug back in and fill it from the check stick... (the stick on the Drivers side of the tranny)

its honestly that easy!!!

then just sit in the car, shift it through the gears, stopping on each gear for about 5 seconds, and cycle them through a few times....

your done... go drive it!!!
