View Full Version : How well do WRX/STi floor mats fit in a BD?

My Legacy is definetely due for a new set of floor mats. I'm not even using a mat under my seat right now because I always have problems with them sliding forward under my pedals. This use to happen to me in my peugeot all the time, and the mat would be coming up with my clutch pedal... what a PIA.

Anyways I'm looking to get some black floor mats, to match the black theme going on. I was wondering how well WRX mats fit in BD's. Do they slide around? Or, would everyone just suggest getting some Legacy specific mats.

Thoughts, pictures and suggestions are very welcome! Thanks a lot.

Any old mat with the rubber spikes will stay put in your car.
I have a 2 year old set from Costco that I bought for $25. They have rubber spikes on them that are about 1cm long.

Don't pay for bling - it's a floormat. ;)

I bought some of those generic 'subaru' ones off ebay.. they were pretty nice. Currently i have a set of rubber ones, and i like them a lot!

www.subarugenuineparts.com (http://www.subarugenuineparts.com) seems to have OEM for cheap.

Unfortunately they dont have any BD/BG specific mats. They have some nice STi embroidered black mats for $65. Anyone know how these would fit?

They fit fairly well - Cajual has them in his BD.

they are awesome. the fact that they fit, is way worth the $20 over generic stuff.

I have the STi mats in my car... they fit pretty good. I used some doublesided velcro for the drivers side to keep it in place so it won't shift around.

I only have a picture of the passenger side...

The STI mats have a nice bolt snap that goes onto the seat. Did yours not have this?

I also bought the plastic hooks that go onto the carpet. I'm going to cut a hole in the carpet to hook the left side of the mat. I'm waiting for better weather so I can pull my drivers seat to do this.

Those must be newer STi mats... the '04 versions are similar, but instead of a snap, they have a hole that hooks onto a similar piece to what you have in your photo. Even with that, I found it still slid around at the top by the pedals, which is why I used some double sided velcro to keep it in place.

My '04 STi had the plastic "hook" and it did not work any better than the ones in my Leg - always slipping forward. The snap is actually a very good idea. Where did you get the snap-style floor mat? Did the snap bracket come with the mats or did you fab it up?

I bought it from the dealer and it came with the bracket snap.

It did not come with the carpet hooks. Even without the left side hooked it holds it pretty good. It will slightly rotate, but I can't feel it move. I figure when I do install the carpet hook it won't move any more.

My STi mats have the the bolt snap as well. I have it bolted in, and am also using double sided velcro like Cajual.

I picked mine up from my subaru mechanic. I also checked them out at my local dealer and the bracket snap was also in the packaging on the display wall.

Here is the part on Jamies site.

https://www.subarugenuineparts.com/prod ... ts_id=1000 (https://www.subarugenuineparts.com/product_info.php?products_id=1000)

The description indicates it has the secure clip.

I have the plastic carpet clips in my storage compartment, I can post those part numbers if people are interested. I'm waiting for nicer weather to install them.

I noticed this thread is in a sticky, so I thought I better update it.

----------------

I finally got to part two of the install, and that is installing the carpet hook. It is pretty simple, but I made some mistakes.

Here are the parts.

95076SA001 Hook Mat Floor Upper

This is the correct way they snap. I accidentally snapped the ring on the other way. And the darn things are just about impossible to seperate afterward.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2008/08/DSCN1589-1.jpg

When pulling the seat, don't forget the seatbelt sensor on the bottom. I amost yanked the seat out with it.

To allow the carpet to move I pulled out two plastic panel nuts. I found a panel tool pops these off without damage.

I needed to pull the plastic trim around the trunk/fuel levers. It is just two screws. You'll need to slide the gas and trunk levers forward and off for the trim to come off completely. All I can say is be careful. The fuel door lever cover was a victim of my install. I accidentally broke it.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2008/08/DSCN1583-1.jpg

You can see in this photo, the underside of the fuel lever has some white exposed, there is a small plastic portion there that I snapped that holds the lever on.

MISTAKE number two. I test fit the mat, but then didn't calculate that the hook is a bit off center from the mounting hole. So my first pilot hole I drilled using the mat as a template, was wrong. So test fit the mat with the hook but then visualize where the mounting hole is to drill.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2008/08/DSCN1587-1.jpg

Fortunately I used a small drill bit as a pilot, so the accidental hole I made was not very big. After making the correct pilot hole, I switched to a larger bit to remove enough carpet to fit the hook piece.

Here's a pic of the two pieces snapped together.

Here's the carpet hook properly installed.

They are brushed aluminum door guards and are very rare. I wanted a set for a long time... I'm not willing to shell out $200-300 for used ones in sub par condition with tons of imperfections. They come around once every few months or so on eBay

Again, very rare.

I sure hope they do. I want to pick some up here soon. I think that brushed aluminum door guards would look great on my car.

On topic: I love my STi floormats. They fit really well and they don't slide at all. I'm really happy with them. Just make sure that if you pick them up to get them from a dealer with the bolt snap. It makes things much easier

Nope, they don't stock them anymore. I called the dealer about 6 months back and they don't make nor stock the door guards
