I picked these up for $250 last night from a local guy. The wheels got painted with a really crappy coat of gunmetal.

I'm going to sand them down and redo the paint. I'll do a writeup as I go.

Gloss black here I come. .

Step 1 -
I lightly sanded the current paint with a 1000 grit sand paper. I didn't want to remove all the paint because the would require more work then I wanted to put in. The wheels lost the rough texture in favor of a smooth silky texture.

Step 2 -
I washed my wheels in the bathtub with the shower and a rag. They come out pretty damn clean. The ideal way to do this is to take t to the car wash and get some pressure behind it, but I'm doing this cheaply at home with minimal tools.

Step 3 -
Dry those bastards off and use a wax/surface crap remover. I just used a face washing pad that has alcohol in it. That just took the tiny little bit of surface gunk off. After that you cut little squares of paper and stick them between the tire and the wheel.

AH I couldn't wait. I painted one outside, in the cold with high humidity. Whoops! Couldn't care less. Here's the first coat which I've got to sand down tomorrow and redo.

Black get's me back to my gangster roots. Every time I see those wheels rolling I think, "Damn son that's gangster." That or I like black wheels. One of those two.

Took me 20 minutes or so to sand them down. Used 1000 grit.

Well, 5 hours , 4 pieces of sandpaper, 1 can of clear coat, and 2 cans of engine paint later they're done.

The whole operation cost me under 30 dollars. It's dark so the pictures came out crappy, but they all look like the shot I took of the one in the daylight.

7 days to go and they'll be totally dry.

The process went as such: Clean wheels off. Sand down. Clean off again. Put pieces of paper between the tire and rim. Paint. Let dry. Paint. Let dry. Clear coat. Let dry. Clear coat. Finish.
