I just finished my own install ( used to work at a top line Audio company)

JVC MP3 head unit (soon to be Alpine DVA 9965)
Dynaudio 3 way splits, 8 in the door, 3 and tweeter on the dash,
Alpine MRD-752 5 ch amp in 3 ch mode,
Rockford P3 15 in custom removable fibreglass tyrewell.

I still have some tidying up of some upholstery and stuff to do but it's mostly there. Sounds pretty sick too!!

Can you also post that up at bbs.legacycentral.org, or could I link to your photos? That's a VERY well done job, I commend you. That's custom glasswork on the door panel, right? How difficult was the process? Can this be duplicated by those with only little experience?

Is there a reason that you spent so much time and effort putting 8's in your doors and throwing all of your mid and high range equipment onto your dash? It seems to me that you'd be better suited just going with high quality audio components that were designed to fit, and maybe affixing a set of tweeters to the mirror triangles, then spend all of your "fab" time in the back.

It was a very good idea, but doesn't seem to flow very well with the interior. The carpet doesn't match your dash carpet, the black paint on the door doesn't match the door card, and the fake leather stuff you put in the back doesn't match anything, as your interior seems to be a bit beat up, and once again, the black doesn't match it.

The 8in door panels are fibreglassed, not the easiest to make. I am trying to find some vinyl that matches the door trim a bit better, it's like fkn hard though.

Tris_STi, you can link direct to my photos if you like, and to your friend... LaureltheQueen, with nearly 400 watts per front channel, you will never be able to use all that power with speakers that fit in the factory locations. If you haven't heard Dynaudio speakers, your missing out. They are the best as far as I'm concerned. With time alignment and some decent equalisation, it doesn't matter that the 8s are in the doors and the 3 and tweeter on the dash.

As I said in my first post, I have some tidying up of the interior to do, which includes getting rid of all the scratches in the boot panels. It's a work in progress. Let us see some of your work...

You want vinyl? I've got a little guide that may help you....although you're working with a 1st gen which I hear is hard to get the door panels off of :(
But this may help. Remember to get the good quality stuff, as it is much more flexible and easy to make look good.

Yeah, cheers Mark, I saw your write up before. It's not so much the applying of the vinyl that I can't get right, It's the colour. I really need to get some genuine stuff from Subaru Australia, that's all.

I still haven't learnt the difference between gen1, gen2 and gen3 libs yet, I thought mine was a gen2. Anyway the door panels aren't that hard to get off, the plastic clips pull the pressed cardboard trim though when they get on a bit. Has anyone got a fix for this?

I'm running Diamond audio 6.5" in front with tweeters mounted as I described. The car is about to go into the shop to have a majority of the back end fiberglassed. I'm having a sub box glassed into one side behind the rear wheel, and an amp rack glassed on the other side. This allows me to not only keep my spare tire, but also fold down my rear seats without losing any space. I'm going with diamond audio everything in this stereo. I don't suppose you've heard of Diamond, as they're hard to get outside of the states.

Laurel, you just described what I'm having done....although I don't know if it'll be entirely fiberglassed. Our wagon hauls a lot of stuff like bikes, so I want to preserve space also...

Sometimes stock just won't cut it. We do things to our cars because we want to be different. Anyone can go to best buy and have some 6.5's installed but the audio lovers want something more.

I commend anyone who has the guts to fab up anything on their own. Be it made of wood, fiberglass, plexi-glass or metal....go for it. You might discover you are good at it.
