How much do you spend on your car every month?

i put about 240$ a month on gas and that’s about it,mind you it is winter and there is no fun on working on your car when its freezing...

A tank lasts me about 12 days if I'm just driving back and forth to school. $45 per tank I probably spend around $150 a month on gas

Just gas in the 95, which is about $100 a month, maybe less. But, I get reimbursed travel pay with my job, so I break even. Last thing I bought for the car other than gas, was ATF, Gear Oil, 5 Quarts worth of oil, and a walmart oil filter. That all totalled up to about $30, maybe less. I really keep holding back on getting that new rear caliper, I don't feel like dishing out the cash for it. Oh yeah, the handle rotted away from the rear hatch, so it doesn't even latch anymore, kinda sucks that the car isn't secure. Its a cheap fix, just pure laziness on my part.
In my 07, I've only bought a fog light kit from someone off of legacygt.com, and the oem sub. $75 a month or less for gas, and the accessories total under $300.

Your car is not tuned for 93 octane, and you are not using the potential of the fuel. You are probably getting worse mileage than if you would use regular 87 octane. 87 isn't shit for your car, it's tuned for it.

It would be shit for a turbo car.

Granted, winter gas does suck, but our cars also start when it's cold.

The only major difference (between the detergents) is the higher octane rating. it's not "cleaner" per se. it's still gasoline.

The 93 octane you run is way past what is optimal for the car. Running 91 is perfectly ok, but a little more expensive than running what is absolutely fine.

If you don't know how you're getting better MPG, then you're probably not - you just think you are.

Back OT - I probably spend an AVERAGE total of $160 a month on my car, that includes maintenance, insurance, gas. Around $2k a year. Not bad.

The higher octane level in a gas actually means that it is HARDER to burn. That is why you run it in Turbo cars. The higher octane being harder to burn prevents post detination (knock). When I goto the dragstrip I run 116 octane leaded gas in my Talon. This does not make me run faster. The increased amount of boost it allows me to run makes me run faster.

But in a low compression, NA car Higher octane can actually cause more problems. It can make for harder starts when cold, Fouling of plugs, incomplete combustion, loss of power, and fouling of your O2 sensors.

So not only are you making less power on the higher grade, you are also making a hell of a mess of the inside of your car.

(This all goes out the window if you are having a problem with knocking on low grade gas) ((But if that is happening on a stock car, you proabably need to do a quick run through of seafoam to clean out your engine.))

Say what you want about the octane.. im not gonna bitch about the extra $1 it cost me. 87 octane is more like 85.. and ive ran it before.. i just prefer to run 93. I would buy 91 if we had it.. but we dont.. we have 89 and 93... so 93 it is. I also dont know how i was getting better gas mileage.. but it was noticeable.. so i dont mind spending the extra dollar. And yea.. our cars do start up... but my honda i use to have would start up easier / quicker.. so, thats not saying much about subaru. Yes.. the car isnt tuned either.. but I dont really mind. I dont think id want to spend the money to have my car tuned to run on 93 anyways.. seems like a waste of money. Its an effing subaru for gods sakes.. not the fastest car on the planet by any means. So stop putting 93 octane in the car! You're not burning all the fuel and being less efficient. I've seen comparisons that Gil did with higher octane fuels, and you don't get better gas mileage - and you're paying more.

Well.. its $1. Its not going to hurt me too much. I think my car enjoys that i treat it good. If my car was older.. i wouldnt care so much, but eh.. its all i have, so i just like to buy her the best i can afford. :roll: I dont expect to see any performance gains.. or gas mileage from it.. i just buy it assuming that its a little bit cleaner..and only $1 more.. so, its not too big a deal. I still think i get better gas mileage.. but im not sure why that would be.. might actually have to do a calculation sometime.

Dude, you keep complaining about running rich, I don't think it's your intake so much as all the fuel you can't burn because your car isn't tuned (or doesn't have a high enough CR) to burn all of that high octane fuel.

Funny you guys are getting so anal about what gas i put in my car. I seriously doubt it matters that much. Just for your sake, i will put some shitty 87 gas in, and join the rest of the subaru hobo's chugging down slug. I'm sure my car will love that! :cool:

I'll report back how in-different it seems the next time i re-fill the tank! Maybe it will get rid of my 'running rich problem'.. but i highly doubt it.. considering it ran rich even when i used 87. But.. time for an experiment! :twisted:

Yea.. 87 isnt that bad i guess.. i've used it before in all my other cars and had no problem. Maybe i will try 87 + reset the ECU and see if i dont run so rich.. but i dont think it will help much. I dont have a tv either.. lol. thank god.
