boxer engine+winter=staying at home

well it was -40 degrees celsius this morning,and during the night.i haven't plugged my block heater and this morning is didn't start.i was completely disappointed since the intrepid that i had last year started perfectly fine when it was that cold.
its plugged in now and we'll se how it does in an hour or two...

were at like..5F here..with a -15F wind chill..my Scoobaru starts fine int he morning..just takes a couple seconds longer to crank..

I remote start my car, then take my morning shower..its sooo coolldd!!

No matter the temp my Legacy started up easily. Colder weather around 35 and less it struggled a bit but nothing to be worried about.

-40 deg. celcius is hard to believe...if you convert... its same as -40F...still kinda hard to get to that level of coldness with ambient temp...you're talking about 40 degrees below freezing point...you must live inside an iceburg...jk

But i dont think its because of the boxer engine that you couldnt start your car...it may have been something else.

I never had a problem no matter how cold it was here. Is it possible that your problem lies within the battery?

First off, tell us how it's not starting before you dive into plugs. If it were plugs, the starter would crank, but you wouldn't get fire....

NGK coppers are the best plugs.

Yea.. i was actually thinking about that this morning.. subarus cold start up is pretty pathetic. My old 91 crx use to start up a hell of a lot better in the winter than my subaru does. While my suby doesnt have any probs.. its kind of annoying thinking that a 1991 honda crx did better in the freezing cold weather.. and it gets FREEZING damn cold here. Even my moms nissan altima starts up better. Its kinda sad. :cry:

CRX has a much smaller engine to crank.

Look at the NGK fit chart - it'll just give you a model year and engine.

Yes.. yes.. this is quite true. 1.6 is definitely a lot smaller. Just seems like they SHOULD do a little better in the cold.. but eh... im not complaining.. bitch still starts up! thats all i care about!

Yea.. its just embarassing when all your friends THINK there is something wrong with your car because it takes so long to turn over. But hell.. as long as it starts.. whatever.

A higher CR engine will typically fire up on fewer revs than a lower CR motor. But there are alot of factors that go into how you car starts. Something as simple as a pinhole leak in your gas tank or vapor recovery line, can cause your fuel system to loose prime. There for you have to crank the engine more to run your fuel pump to get some go juice into the engine.

Try it with a carborator. If I don't drive my truck for a couple of days, the fuel in the carbs bowls evaporates. The truck has a mechanical fuel pump driven off the cam. It sometimes takes me 5 of 6 tries to get her to fire. And god forbid I run out of gas without someone around to give me a jump or my battery will die before I get fuel up to the carb.

i just use ngk v-power plugs. i've always had good luck with them, period. don't use bosch's for the love of god. i tried bosch's twice in 2 different vehicles and my mpg dropped 2-4 mpg both times. just get the regular ngk v-power's from schuck's for like $2 each.
