www.tirerack.com (http://www.tirerack.com)

You may not get the best deals there, but it's great for research.

They have some pretty good deals on there though.. and they get you your tires mad fast. I live in the middle of nowhere, and my tires usually get to me pretty much overnight. I have always bought tires from them, and they are pretty damn good. They have a lot better tire prices than anywhere else ive checked.. and a much larger selection.

1010tires.com too

Basically between these two sites you pretty much have every possible large-name tire manufacturer listed.

www.vulcantires.com (http://www.vulcantires.com)
www.edgeracing.com (http://www.edgeracing.com)
www.discounttiredirect.com (http://www.discounttiredirect.com)

I use all three for price-quoting and matching.

You're looking for winter tires?

Michelin Xice and Nokian Hakkapelitias come to mind.

Consider the Hankook Icebears (W300) - a lot of Canadian Subaru drivers are using them with satisfaction. $80 a peice for 205/55/16 (but you'd be looking for 215/45/17, right?)

Will any 16" rims fit over the LGT brakes? If the WRX rims fit, you could run 16" tires.

You should go to 225/45/17 for a more accurate spedometer reading, better traction, a slightly taller sidewall (smoother ride), and more tire options. Subaru puts 215's on their 17" wheels to save money and because they are super conservative, however they are quite small and make the spedo read 3-4mph low. I also reccomend that you not replace the Potenza Re92's with the same tires. there are plenty of good and inexpensive all-seasons out there that do better on dry, wet, and snowy conditions.

www.tires-easy.com (http://www.tires-easy.com) is my favorite and their prices are absolute bargains!

not that I know of. the 12" rotors and calipers take a lot of space and won't fit under even RS 5 or 6 spokes.

Huh? RS rims fit over the 4 pots but not the LGT brakes? :-?

4 pots, 02-05 wrx, and 02-04 LGT use 11.4" rotors

LGT brakes use 12.3" rotors. that's almost brembo-size right there (12.8"). google is your friend :)

Brembos? That's a sketchy term to use. The STi 4 pots are brembos...

Anyways, thanks for the info.

well, I'm not going to argue nomenclature, however, I used the common names for the "4-pots" and "brembos" that most people use. you're welcome for the info :)

i wouldn't run a 225 tire in the winter... narrow=better in snowy conditions.

wide tires tend to not dig down through the snow as well as narrower tires.

distribution of mass - spencer's quite right. I run 185s in the winter - works great!

oh jeez, I missed the winter tire bit. I can highly reccomend Hankook W409. Mine have handled admirably on my impreza in the 5ft of snow we've had in the last two months.

I almost hate to suggest 215/45/17's for snow tires because it's such a small tire with very little protection for the rim. I'd lean towards 225's for that reason. They LGT is by no means a lightweight and the rear lsd certainly helps with traction, so 225's should work well, unless you often find yourself driving in deep snow or slush. If you get lots of ice, the fatter footprint will give you good traction.

Like mark, I also have x-ice on my legacy and they seem to be excellent tires with very good dry handling characteristics and as the name suggests, do a great job on ice. a little pricey though, especially in 17" size.

if you are worried about protecting the rim, just get a taller sidewall like a 50 or 55 with the 215... you don't have to go wider to get a taller sidewall
