I had a love affair with an Acura Legend until 2000 when mine officially died. Since then I have been wondering from car to car until two years ago, when I found my 2000 Legacy. It was love at first sight.

I have enjoyed reading the post on this site for a few months, and finally decided to stop being a voyeur. I have very limit auto knowledge so I enjoy learning from your posts.

I am ashamed to submit any pics of my Legacy, especially since I had a little run in with another vehicle last night. :-? Only a scratch. But she is humble in comparison to all of the cars I have seen on here.

It is an automatic. I prefer a manual...but like I said, I fell in love and I don't think I could have waited on a manual to show itself.

It is pretty much factory 'cept my sound system. Nothing special just upgraded speakers and sub...stuff like that. Thanks for being so friendly!!!

I am in Knoxville TN. *Yes I own shoes*

The damage isn't too bad...I am going to just clean it up and add a little paint to touch it up (boo hiss) but am not going to get the bumper repainted.

I will go ahead and break the news now though…My baby probably only has about 3 years to live. :-( She has a problem with a pump in the transmission (Or at least that is what Subaru tells me). I am going to give her a good life until she dies on me.

I will be posting many many many question be sure of that. I am always having car trouble. It is my curse.

Only problem is putting it in.. unless she knows how to do it herself.. which i dont think she does.. bet it would cost an arm and a leg from the stealership.

Yea, probably not TOO complex.. if you know what your doing. But i dont even think id attempt that.. i just dont have the resources / knowledge really. While i might be able to figure it out with a manual.. might be a little hard still. I know the stealerships charge an arm and a leg to get one done too.. like in the thousands.. i bet you could find another reliable shop to do it for much cheaper though.. just would need to search around and find some reliable contacts i guess.

In the thousands? It's a 4 hour job at the dealership, tops.

It really isn't complex at all, especially if you're just replacing the tranny with the exact same thing.

A 5 speed swap would be a lot harder because you'd have to add a pedal set, etc etc, but just dropping the exact same thing is NOT hard.

Really, you shouldn't talk about it without doing some research first.

I will try to get a pic up in a few days. As for the tranny...I might just drive it until it starts really acting up and trade it in. The guy at the dealership said it should be good for another 2 or 3 years. It only gives me problems when it is cold, so apparently I am just seeing the early warning signs...

Do they sell a "Transmission Replacement for Dummies?" I might be able to knock in out in a weekend. :roll:

A few weeks ago I left my house (after warming the car up) and it didn't seem to want to shift into second. When it finally did shift it was so hard the car made a loud 'thunk' sound and it knocked me back. It scared me to death. I felt like some one had hit me from behind. I stopped and when I started again it did the same thing. I only did it from first to second.
I checked my fluid and it was fine. I had actually had my fluid changed a few months ago, so that should have not been the problem.
After I drove a few miles it stopped jerking and drove fine.

Last week I was pulling out on the road and when I pushed the gas pedal the engine roared (kind of loud since I have one of the cone air filter deals) and it took a second to catch when it did it peeled out. It was almost like I had a clutch pushed in and suddenly let it out. (Which can’t be good since I am driving an automatic)

The dealership hasn’t looked at my car, but the guy seems to be familiar with this problem. It has shifted hard from time to time but nothing like it did that day. And there are days when it seems to up and down shift at weird times. It will up shift but if I maintain my speed down shift again suddenly as if it doesn’t really know what gear it needs to be in.

If it's cold, I would run the shifter through the gears before I moved the car anywhere - that gives the transmission a chance to shift things around a bit and get that ATF warmed up.

Might want to consider Lubeguard ATF as well, it's a good fluid.
