i know that i'm kickin' the everloving hell out of that poor ole dead horse, but, i'm redoing my suspension in the next week or so and i needed to know about the tophats, so here goes. i got the gr-2's for my 96 and lookin to get some lowering springs also. but i've been reading that even with the bd specific springs i will need to get impreza upper spring perches because the stocks are too big in diameter. is this true (answer preferably from someone who has lowered their car)? one more question the tophats are just the spring perch and not the thing the shock mounts to that you can see in the engine bay? will have before and after pics, also.

I have a set of GR2's and Eibach springs from mr choung (who has a sedan) and they are identical in appearance ( as far as shock lengths and top hats) as my set of wagon GT springs. You should be fine with BD specific springs. Now, if you get impreza springs of any sort, yes you will need different top hats for the front.

Not quite - the tophats should be mated to the springs. If the springs are BD specific, you'd want BD specific tophats. The reason many use Impreza tophats (for the front anyways) is because there is so much more for suspension for the Impreza, and they use Impreza springs.

the spring perch should be the same as the gc 93-01 impreza. GD impreza springs are different, requiring a different spring perch, and the struts are unusable without some modification. the top mount/ top hat, or rubber thing the shock bolts to, does not need to be changed, but it may be wise since it is a moving part of the suspension (its designed to deflect about an inch over bumps)

Impreza top hats will work on ALL LEGACIES. It is the spring perch which is different with legacy springs.
