pod filter re-positioning

hey all, i saw this done on a forester before, the guy put a pod (cone) filter straight off the back of his throttle body... i am presuming this would get more hot air and would not benefit the car... however it looks mad :cool: Can anyone tell me any problems i might encounter in doing this or has anyone done this before? thanx

The MAF is going to give you issues, you would need to find a way to mount it inbetween the filter and throttle body. The newer engines use a MAP sensor vs. the MAF sensor. The MAP is located on the intake manifold so there is nothing physically in the intake itself, allowing the person to install a filter right on the TB. I believe rallitek.com has this style intake. I think its call a ram-pod or something similar.

I think you would have issues mounting the MAF that close to the engine as well. It needs to be within a certain distance from the throttle body inorder to give proper readings. Its possible that the engine may not run properly with the MAF that close, or you may get a CEL.

With the maf that close you will get too much turbulence to get good readings and the computer won't know what to do. Good idea for a MAP car with a scoop but not a MAF car.

What kind of car do you drive?

Since I have no Idea what you are driving:

In 92 I think Suzuki made a 4x4 trooper with a carborator. If that is your car you shouldn't have a problem with putting the filter there.

haha yea sorry about that.. forgot the mention the car.. its a 92 lib gx wagon. Thanx for that, the Maf was my main point of confusion, thanx for straightenin that one out. Just bored these days and looking for things on the car to mod without spending more $$$ haha. Phill
