How much should it cost me to get a new windshield installed on my 1999 LGT (BD)? I was driving home this morning when a rock flew up from someones tire and put a chip in my windshield! :smt013 While its not a super bad chip, i know with the cold weather its just going to get worse, and im going to need to replace it at some point anyways.. This REALLY pisses me off. GRR.

I know what you are saying. I had two windshields put on my BC within three months due to 1) Tar and chip paving, and 2) lifted trucks without mud flaps! However, try Auto Glass Specialist, they had a special deal and I paid $00.00!! Ask them for a deal. They were having a competition at the time, but you never know!

I dunno if we even have any auto glass specialists around here.. hmm, i might just call around to see. Im wondering if i should just let it crack more.. or just get it replaced. And yea.. this was due to a lifted truck with no mudflaps as well.. fun fun. I was so pissed when it happened.. grr. I wonder if the glass would be more than $300 to get put in retail.. when i was in FL, i got some glass for my CRX put in for like $200, or maybe even less by a mobile window installer guy.. it was pretty fast, and he did a good job. Sucks.. here i dont even think we have those, so i will have to drop it off at a shop..blah. Why did you get it for free? Who were they competing with? LOL thats pretty cool man, wish something cool like that would come around! Any other ideas guys?

Safelite describes the glass as this :
Front Windshield, Green Tinted Glass with 6 inch Green Shadeband at top
Does that sound correct? Didnt know my glass was green tinted!?!?

Go and sit in your car. You should have a tinted strip across the top. Some models have blue, some have green. Doesn't really matter, but it does help cut down the high-noon glare.

Yea i think mine is tinted blue.. the strip across the top at least.. but i dont think the glass is tinted green.. might be blue as well. Hmm. I tried to get an auto quote from them, and they gotta email me... so im guessing there isnt one in the area..dammit. Hopefully they will email me back with something good. Really gonna have to check on that green / blue stuff tho... ive never noticed any green tint in mine, so im pretty sure its gonna be blue. What color is yours tinted / band at top?

My car didn't have a band, but my new windshield had a green band.
FWIW, if you have full coverage, ask about adding windshield insurance. For me it was only $5 more a month, which in a year costs only $60. Considering it takes 3 years to pay for a windshield in this fashion I felt it worth my while.

No windshield insurance? I'm surprised - most companies are happy to fix your windshield under normal coverage...

New Hampshah' But.. close enough. haha. I looked into a couple of places with online quotes.. looks like it will cost anywhere from $250-280 to get replaced.. so i GUESS thats not TOO bad. Still sucks though, im just gonna wait it out.

I remember when I was a kid you didn't need auto insurance. Your car just needed to be registered and inspected. I thought RI was the last to do this, guess I was wrong.
