If im not mistaken, exotics are insured as a special vehicle type and they are cheaper to insure then alot of other cars. This is because people who buy those cars barely drive them and try to be really careful (except the ones who end up on wreckedexotics.com)

exotics are normally insured as pleasure vehicles. It's a lot cheaper that way as compared to insuring it as a daily driver.

I just got a pretty good quote on an STI. Full insurance including modification coverage for $1800/yr. Yes, expensive. But being in the 16-25 year old male catagory, it could definately be worse. I compared this State Farm rate to $3300 from E-surance, $4200 from Progressive, and $5200 from All-state.

Well I get a few discounts.

I get one discount from my parents having insurance through State Farm
I get a student discount for good grades in college
I also get a safe drivers discount for no accidents / tickets in the past 3 yrs.

It also goes down every year I don't get in an accident. First year 5% off, next year 10% off, etc. etc. up to 25% off if I don't get any accidents in 5 yrs.

State Farm has been good too. The one time I used them was about 3 years ago when I got in an accident with my old Legacy. Totaled the car but they gave me $10,750 for a car that I paid $6700 for. The insurance went up to about $2300 for 3 years (from about $1800) but overall it worked out alright. I would definately recommend State Farm.

P.S. Don't get speeding tickets! That makes the insurance go up too and apparently you lose certain discounts. I have fortunately never gotten one. (lots of warnings :twisted: )

I haven't looked into an STi, but a Spec.B would be some where around $2250/year. I am paying about $1080/year right now on the BE.

"pleasure vehicle" insurance usually means collector's insurance. They put a lot of resistrictions for you to get coverage, hence why it's cheaper. For instance they don't expect you to put anywhere the same mileage on a pleasure vehicle as you would a daily driver (I think some companies cap you to 10k miles a year). There some other stuff in the fine print as well.

I suggest you look into it to make sure it's right for you.

Yup. Though, if your state does yearly inspections, and you go beyond the amount of miles allowed, your insurance rate will spike like crazy..and the company might even drop you.

Here's an interesting fact. It was cheaper to insure my '00 BE than to insure my '97 Sunfire GT under my own name. Just turned 22, clean record.

I think the IS300 has the lowest average aged driver for ANY vehicle in the entire Toyota line, including Scions.
