Finally...I've had my issue for a while now. How much did it cost for crawford to rebuild the motor to the "Subiesport Special" specs? It seems like another good option.

I've read the February edition and loved what you have done with the engine. However the outside leaves MUCH to be desired.

some JDM tails will do wonders
Looks good, I glad you guys did the Legacy, no other mag gives a darn about older Leg's it seems.
Any numbers available? I guess I just need to go buy the latest issue

Sweet looking swap, I'd look at doing some different wheels (brand new LGT wheels would look trick) and also upgrade to WRX brakes or other performance options, as the current setup is tiny.
What happened to the lip? Speed bump/ Auto-X incident?

I don't know what pricing is on the block, but I think it is either the same as or a little bit more than their standard S2 block, the pistons are the only difference, and they redecked the heads but that is all.
The exterior... well it leaves MUCH to be desired because I painted it, in my garage, 2 days before the car was to be shipped to sema in 40deg weather. So yeah. It will get a pro paint job soon but I think the body kit is nice.
Numbers.... 160whp 160lb/ft at a PEAK 5lbs of boost. We are running straight w/g at the moment and when the 5lb spring is cold, it holds 5lbs, but once it gets hot and starts to sag, it tapers to about 3-4lbs. Once we get the tighter spring in there it will be better, we need a boost controller too.

bumper was smashed by the transport company taking the car to SEMA. The car didn't go as they smashed it loading the car...
Brake upgrades are on the way... just have to wait.
I like the wheels but we have a different set we are going to use to get 18in 235 rubber on the car.
That's what I want to turn my L into more or less.
Looks nice. I like your magizine, Is that the Gt you bought from Tx ( I think) in one issue?

Looks pretty cool overall! What type of kit is that on there? A few things you could do to improve the looks :
-Polish headlights
-Polish the car
-JDM tails
-rear GT Spoiler (a must)
-06 WRX rims
Looks like you could also get rid of that nasty huge stock crank pulley as well.. that would be a quick cheap upgrade.
Other than that, looks like a really sweet project!

He probably already has a flywheel setup on there, so the crank pulley wouldn't be a good idea. People have had problems with using both a lightened CP and Flywheel.
A GT spoiler wouldn't make any sense as he dewinged it (it's a GT shell).

What problems have people been having?

Driveshaft issues. I don't remember all the specific instances, but it usually does something bad to the flywheel.
I know, it's sounds sketchy because I can't back it up, but I can't find the link where the guy talks about flywheels vs. pulleys.

Hmm interesting. I would have left the wing on... i think the stock body style looks much better that way. But to each their own!

We have an Exedy hyper single clutch/flywheel on there so yes we have a lighter flywheel/clutch.
I might put a pulley on but I don't really see a need for it for all the good it will do. And, they can trip misfire codes. The reasoning I have heard is that the crank has less inertia and thusly rotates faster than the crank sensor expects and so it thinks it is a misfire... don't know how much truth there is in that.
The headlights are polished, its just bad lighting so they don't look as crystal clear as they are. I don't get all excited over tail lights, they turn on when you hit the brakes... yay.
It was a GT and I took the wing off since I think it looks kinda lame, and it does not really do anything. Going for more a clean look.
I will be repainting it... again. The paint turned out badly since I painted it my garage 2 days before it was supposed to go to SEMA, yeah that turned out well...
We will have an actual paint guy do it right this next time.

I think the wing really helps balance the body lines of the car out. Without it, it looks too front wide / heavy.. but either way. it looks good! I installed a lightweight crank pulley before.. no misfires, or codes or anything.. it was nice too for the money! Im not sure exactly what it would do since you already have a lightened flywheel tho! Either way.. keep us updated, very cool project! How much it cost so far?

so yea to clear up some things on the why not to lighten the rotating mass. one thing about boxer motors is the the kinetic energy of the pistons moving up and down is bad because they are at the same points at the same time, therefore the pistons slow down and speed up a lot and more than a normal motor. and that is why you you cant lower the weight that mmuch on the fly wheel and crank pully. all becasue of the enertia of hte engine. also prolonges the bearings if left stock. but if you are going to change some thing change the flywheel.
to back this up i say go to "wikipedia.org" and search engine balance

i'm just stoked you guys are working on a BD...BH for teh loss...lol
anyhoo....
are those the 18's you had planned on putting on there? If so, what's the xxx/xx/xx and offset? Also, what else did you guys have to do to avoid rubbage? They look great and seem to have plenty of clearance.
which issues had the 1st parts of the build? i've got the issues with the last 2 parts.
good times.

I was more referring to the lightweight pulley AND flywheel combination being a problem.

When I replace my clutch I'm going with a stock flywheel because I'll be doing a lot of highway driving. That inertia that a heavier flywheel carries while spinning is another factor to consider when getting a lightened flywheel.

Needs JDM tails and a rear bumper/larger skirt, it looks like a hot chic with a huge rack but no ass....just doesn't work.

Yes, you're quite right - It will definitely affect driveability in the name of faster revving.

I think alot of the "lighter parts causes problems" is just speculation. It has not really been documented to any real degree. However, the people who sell the fluidamper will tell you that lighter crank pullies are bad since they don't limit vibration. I don't know really. There is more hp is in the turbo and engine management so that is where I will focus my engery.
A lighter flywheel should mean better fuel economy as it is less mass you have to motivate. I have not noticed a decline in fuel economy, well I have but that has more to do with big injectors and running way rich.
The wheels in the pics are 17s with 225 rubber and they rub. The 18s with 235s would not fit (stuck out past the fenders), I think they were 235 35 18 with a 55mm offset... I think, I will have to recheck that but we are going to a 48mm offset to make the 235s fit, and we will have to roll the fenders as well probably.
There are things I don't like about the body kit like the side skirts and bumper but finding parts for these cars is not easy, especially body parts, no one in the US carries such parts in stock that I am aware of and I looked. If you have any suggestions let me know. The kit we have came from Primitive Racing.

No misfire codes with my lighten Perrin pulley. As for doing both I read on a few different forums (Subaru and other car makes) isn't a good idea. The guys at ECS and on WRX forums said lighten flywheels don't really work well with DD turbo cars. I was told that lighten flywheels are best on NA cars. Again this is all shit I was told but figured I share what was going around.
SubiesprtED- It's not a bad setup at all...look wise it needs to be balanced a bit more. I'm going to pick up the new issue tomorrow.

Nice work guys.
As was said, I would have gone with a different wheel. You can never go wrong with TE-37s. As for the body kit..... I personally don't mind it. However, I bet a JDM grille and L badge would look clean. Also have you thought about pulling the headlights apart and blacking them out and/or removing the amber? That would be another nice subtle touch. Just a few suggestions from the peanut gallery I suppose  The car looks great, and I bet it hauls ass.

Looks good man. I think some cleaner lokking wheels would really set off the look. (Rota's or Enkei's)

I like what you have done with the engine bay!
As for looks, I'll say I'm excited that thing is getting some new paint. I dig the rims on there, but atleast get some 2 pot WRX brakes, but I'd get the 4 pots on there.
While my Legacy is also wingless(at the moment), I have to say I enjoy the looks of the BD a lot more w/ the GT rear spoiler. Japanese market taillights would also compliment the car a lot better, especially with such an aggresive front bumper. I do like that front bumper a lot though, especially with that fat IC behind it.
Overall I love the direction, just putting in my .02 cents on the styling.
