Compared to other cars, my car is SLOW. Im trying to figure my options right now, and one of them is to drop an STi EJ257 w/ DCCD 6-Speed into my car.

Right now, I have the EJ251 with 4EAT.

Anyone done it?

Legacy Harness with STi bits or STi Harness with Legacy bits?

What ECU?

What Clutch Master/Slave/Pedal Assembly?

Check out the sticky at the top of this thread. It can definitely be done, the process is the same as most any other swap. The factor would be cost, the STi stuff is expensive. I'd personally lean you towards an EJ20 swap, and use the extra money for mods to go on at the same time, especially if you're looking for more performance.

I don't know, I think it could be a toss up in costs.

If you look at just the engine
The upfront costs of a EJ257 STI setup (minus 6 speed DCCD), I think is going to be a better setup.

By the time you invest in a full EJ20 (wiring, turbo, IC) and buy engine management, bigger turbo, better IC, you'd already be into a EJ257 setup.

I bought a full EJ20 for a swap for around $3k. A full STI engine, wiring, turbo, IC can be found for around $5k.

I guess it is possible you could be at the same power levels or maybe slightly higher with the EJ20 + mods, but you wouldn't have the benefit of the extra displacement.

I struggled with this myself, and decided going to a full STI setup would be a better way to go.

Prices for STi stuff must have come way down since last I checked. It's definitely a good motorset, if you can find it affordably. I'd want the 6 speed to go with it though.

Gruppe-s is selling >1000km JDM EJ257 engines(complete) for 3000 dollars on their website. it comes on the JDM ForresterXT, same internals as usdm sti, just smaller turbo and intercooler.

sti swap, so far as i can tell, is actually the cheapest way to go because of the extreme surplus of parts for it

just my .02

I was gonna ask about this same thing. I have a 2000 BE with an ej251 that has a blown headgasket. I found an ej255 for $2200, but have absolutely no experience swapping engines. I was figuring on just having a garage fix the engine I have for $1500 since I don't have the tools or knowledge to do it myself.

I'd say swap it out, I've been wishing i had ever since I fixed my HG
