possible BD STi?

Lately I have reverted back to thinking about buying another BD and doing a full STi drive train swap. By everything I mean everything (unless the physical part will not fit) so it should have all the "performance"of an STi in a Legacy body. I also dug out the chop I did of my 95 L to revisit the exterior mods I was originally planning until I lost my mind and traded it :mad:

I see it almost everyday around town and am thinking about tracking it down and asking the current owner if they would be interested in selling it back to me (it still has my JL speakers in the doors :razz: ). This is assuming it hasn't gone to hell in two years.

Here is the chop I did a few years back, just subtle mods that made the car more visually appealing (to me anyway) but is still very sleeperish.

badbasser has long held a soft spot for the BD, rather than the BE. Currently there are more "upgrade" options for the BD, based on the independent strut suspension. It's also a few pounds lighter than the BE.

Many of the reasons have been stated by other posters, but I have always regretted trading my BD, that is my favorite generation Legacy.

My BE I am working on to be a nice daily driver. I want it to look good, sound good, go slow, and get good gas mileage. :lol:

If I were to swap the BE, I would need to get another car or find some other way to deal with the downtime. This option is really not feasible, though is something I have though of.

The BD is lighter, there are many more parts I can swap over from the Impreza platform as far as suspension goes. Not to mention that there are many more JDM goodies to grab for the 2nd gen Legacy's. Plus, if I get a 95 I don't have to pass emissions :cool: I just can't have a CEL on, which with a stock STi motor and ECU I would hope I wouldn't get a CEL.

Its still a toss up for me right now as to what bumper I want, I am leaning toward the 95 style bumper though.

IIRC those wheels are SSR Competitions... $335/ea. at that time :shock: I don't think they are made any more. Also, they were only sold by TireRack. From what I remember, they are the same as the Asian SSR Type C that was brought to the US and offered in different colors.

It looks like they couldn't have been bothered with making it look good, then in 97 they got a kick in the ass and woke up. I think the bigger grille looks nicer too.

Then check out UCTiV's thread on NASIOC to see what was involved. He did the full engine, drivetrain, gauge cluster, DCCD.

He's currently doing the suspension on it, and brakes.

Let's just say the last time I saw the car, at an autox school, the engine was manhandling the car's dynamics :grin: :lol:

Personally, I would never spend $300+ for a single wheel. Its just a chop, I was playing around with ideas and that's what came of it. Reason showed interest in the wheels so I told him what they were. Any research on those wheels though would show that they are prone to bending at the lip, and the finish sucks. Waste of money in more way than one.

I like kraziken's car alot, and I might use it as a slight influence to how mine looks (assuming I go through with it). xcntrk's car is sweet too :grin:

If I use the L bumper it would be modded (secret plans), that is my reason for using it. :cool:

I know the BE is heavy, but that just means you need to do a H6 swap. :grin:

Why not a GC8 swap? If it isn't your daily driver, go even lighter.

If I didn't have two little swawkers to take in tow, I probably would have made a 22b replica.

I still throw a cel occasionally, I think it has to do with the high flow cat I'm running. you could defeat that problem with a plug for passing emissions.

Everyone is swapping Imprezas... Plus they are charging and insane amount of money for 10 year old car. I can pick up a BD around here pretty cheap. There was a 99 L with 115k on it for $3k. AFAIK it never sold, I should see if its still around. I miss my BD is another reason, it was my first Scoob :grin:

I've just been surfing around and making calls for JDM celica alltrac halfcuts (more info on why later :twisted: ) but you can get JDM subaru motors in good shape now for not too expensive. Might want to go that route if you're trying to save dollars

The GC is only about 100lbs lighter than the BD L (assuming both have AWD and a 5MT)

It's 2750 vs. 2885 for the Impreza 2.2 and the Legacy 2.2 both with 5MTs and AWD
