View Full Version : Turn signal/blinkers random flickering?

Hi everyone,

This afternoon, while I was driving to school for an evening class on the highway, I noticed that after I had released the stalk for the turning signals back to the center/off position, the turning signals would 'flicker' on and off for about another minute. The turn signal lights on the dashboard didn't flash or anything, but I could hear the distinct 'blinking' sound the turn signal makes when I have it on. As the traffic was barely moving at one point, I managed to get up close enough to the car in front of me to check from the reflection whether the turning signals were actually blinking or not. And there it was, the side on which I had turned on the turn signal before was still flickering, but at a very random beat.

I tried to flick the stalk to the other direction to stop the random flickering, but it only worked sometimes and the problem happens when I return the stalk to the center position from both sides.

Just wondering if anyone has had this problem before and whether this is caused by a faulty relay or the stalk or something else.

I have had my 2001 Legacy WGN for about 3 months now and this was the first time I've seen a problem like this in a car.

Any pointers as to where I should check and what to replace would be greatly appreciated as I wish to fix this myself if it's not too much trouble.

Thanks!

After a trip to my friends shop, we discovered that it was a broken turn signal lever....

I think I just might also order the wiper lever for the GT model so I can adjust the intermittent wiper.
