Resistor "performance chips"

So, I'm wondering if these so called performance chips from ebay which I have heard are just resistor chips are worth the time? Has anyone tried these and are they worth the time and money?

I would never touch anything even remotley like those things on eBay. Who knows what it would do to your car. :roll:

They essentially make your car run rich, and because the incoming air never changes temperature according to the computer I imagine it would run rough if it got cold/hot enough.

One person was thinking about trying it out because so many people say that intakes make your car run lean, he thought this was an easy way to richen it up a bit. Not really worth the time and after time can foul your plugs and your O2 sensor.

Usually nothing that is cheap and easy is worth it - there are always downsides.

Its cheap cause theres nothing to them. You can buy a package of the same resistors at radioshack for a few bucks.

I dont know how theyd work on MAP cars but on maf they just trick the ECU into thinking the engine is getting cold air, and therefor dumps more fuel into the engine.

As long as your car has an intake air-temp sensor (both MAP and MAF cars have them), it'll work to an extent. Putting the resistor inline with the sensor makes the ECU think the engine is getting colder air than what is actually there, and advances timing and fuel.

It's an old bracket racer's trick. It works for occasional passes at the drag strip, but not something you'd do as a permanent modification to the car.

Of a few things, ECU's can learn around them, they can screw up your engine, waste fuel, and the power bump is *not*, I repeat *not* that big (not like the 22HP!!!! claims those stupid ebay ads have).
