Lookin to buy brakes

Well I've finally decided on the set of rims I want (05+ LGT 5 spokes) and my brakes need to be swapped soon. I'm lookin at just getting slotted fronts with blank rears, and Hawk HPS pads all around. I've seen RacingBrake rotors come up alot in these forums, but is there any others that you might suggest? My setup is mainly for looks, but I'd like that better-than-stock braking also.

You should never sacrifice performance for looks with brakes.

With that said I have no real suggestions. My brakes will need done at some point this summer, when it comes to that time I will be putting on Brembo blanks all the way around. I have just put on a set of Hawk front pads (huge difference with only changing those!) because they couldn't wait any longer. I have to figure out what I'm doing for rear pads as well.

that sounds fine. slots don't do much of anything but look different, and hawk pads work great. I just buy whoever is cheap for rotors, I can't really tell a difference.

Yeah I had brembo blanks/hps on my VR6 and I loved that, but I also had stock wheels so I didn't care what type of brakes I had. And with this car I really don't want to do anything half-assed

Any blank or slotted rotor will be fine for street driving. If you feel better saying your blanks are made by some well-known company, then all the more power to you. ;)

The 05 Legacy used 17" wheels, right? Maybe you should see about some huge brakes, then. They would look good and perform a lot better.

I had a bad experience with RacingBrake, not that you will. I just had a bad taste left in my mouth and a worthless pair of $200 rotors after only 4.5 months. The Hawk HPS pads are great, those alone will give you better braking performance. I just switched to Brembo rotors but have only had them on 2 days...

If I had to do it over, I would get: plain corrosive resistant rotors, say with the Hawk pads, get some stainless braided lines, and possibly upgrade to a better fluid. That should improve feel, give better performace and will not break the bank.

ye i totally forgot about the rust problem, its pretty bad on the calipers.

Sarra- yes they are 17s. I'm not too concerned with looks, I'v just gotten really close to smacking someone in the back bumper on several occasions.

Well those LGT rims are around 20 lbs. IIRC, which is heavier than the stock BE 16"s, so yes your stopping distances (as well as turn-in and response) would be slightly longer because of the increased rotating mass, all other factors being equal.

The stock GT wheels are around 18lbs, so they aren't that much heavier. I really didn't notice any difference going from stock wheels, to aftermarket 16's, then to my LGT 17's.

Maybe the surface of your brake pads have glazed over?

Does Hawk make a pad for teh rear application on the BE GT? I was searching the site but couldn't find one, unless I'm stupid or something. I'd like to match teh rears up to the fronts when I get them.

I thought a quality rotor (such as Brembo) resisted rust and hairline stress cracks much better than a cheapie. I also thought they cooled better and resisted warping better. - Which I have recently learned can be cause by uneven lug nut torque.

Anyone know where I can find brembo rears??? I can't find them anywhere, and all the places I looked at only had front rotors for my car. I ended up ordering Brembo blanks on the front and HPS pads all around from Tirerack, but I still need rear rotors

Depends on what year BE you have, but they make them for both. My 03 has the newer style that 03-04 foresters and 03+ WRX's use, some of the older BE's got the pad style that the older cars got, I think.

11.6 (what BE's got, i.e H6 rotors) or 10.4 (basically everyone else) rotor, they all use the same type of caliper. Just need to find out which pad shape you have.

Hawk's website. Just check out the application list (it's in pdf format) worse comes to worse you can use their pad list that has a diagram of each pad shape and you can compare what you have right now.

I had to do that when I was buying new pads because I wasn't 100% sure if I my BE used the older pad like the 02 WRX or the newer pad used in the 03+ WRX's. Turned out I had 03+ brake pads.

BTW, someone is selling a set of new rear hawk hps pads on rs25 right now, it should fit your car.

No no, I have pads for all 4 corners, I just can't find Brembo rear rotors

I just bought 4 Brembo drilled & slotted with Axxis XBG semi-met pads.. I have no clue how they work and wont till Oct this year, but I paid over 450.00 so they damn well better work well! :lol:
