theres so much potential in it and im just limiting it by driving in new york......

does anyone know of any areas that have a straight road for like a mile that i can just test my top speed.....

the most ive done so far was in the i684......i hit 132, and i no i can 140 or more.........

i feel so helpless abiding the laws and driving 60 mphs to school and work everyday!!!!!

I wouldn't do it in the state your car is registered in just in case you get caught. Try a track in nj or on the nj turnpike.......o and street racing is bad

Englishtown NJ has a drag strip, there may be others...can anyone chime in?

On a side note, I never left brooklyn until I started going to subaru meets. You might want to consider doing that, its a big world out there outside the state and much smoother roads.

MARKV: Find a track.

You want to test your Subaru's limits? Then do it on a track, with other like minded people. You might learn something about your own limits, which might end up saving you from pulling your seat from your ass when you slam into a tree.

Here's where you can find more info about NY state racetracks:
http://www.scca.com/Inside/index.asp?reference=nediv

Edited because apparently calling someone a moron for even considering testing their topspeed on a public road is rude.

Can I say without trying to be an ass, that for some reason or another your posts have been a little odd lately?

The topic of this one is way out to lunch, I fully expect to click it to hear about mechanical or service woes, instead its asking where you can speed.

Your topic on BOV was also way out there in terms of what you were asking, and what you obviously hadn't read up on. I've read some past posts on searching, and it just seems like these last few are weird.

Is it just me? What's up MarkV?

Where's the thread about the impreza that went airborne into a tree at 100mph and exploded?

I thought that was a 3000GT that was going 180 and split in half, courtsey of a Lodgepole Pine?

I don't want to be rude or anything, but if you think speeding in a straight line until the ECU says you cant go faster is testing your Subarus limits then no wonder you're depressed. I agree with Huffer.

Meet me in the middle of I80 somewhere in PA, at night, in the mountains.

:D

Seriously though, NYC puts a lot of undue abuse on the car; I just remembered how much 17"s suck on these roads (live in Queens, school in Detroit) after driving back here. Anyway do it on a track. Or find an autocross even there and see the limit of your car's performance (though more likely, you'll see your limits will be reached much more quickly than the car's).

wasn't the speed limited at like 135 or 140 with a chip or something.
i know that BD can top their speedometers but thats only 120 and you should test your car on something like bear mountain or some other winding road its way more fun!!!!

Speeding like that on public roads is a VERY bad idea. There are tracks and strips for that sort of thing.

Dodik - not all BDs could, some where limited by fuel cut at 112mph.

Playing devils advocate here:

For most people a track day is just not feasible. First off, you've gotta pass the whole tech inspection crap, possibly need to have a cage, fire system, etc. Then there's the fees, a couple hundred bucks for a few hours. Then there's the logistics. Actually finding a track close by that hosts open track events and then trying to make it to those track events is a major pain when you could just hit up a freeway at 2 in the morning and put your foot down.

Jesus I hope you can pass a tech inspection if you're trying to go 100+ mph. I'm afraid of half the crap cars on the highway doing 70. At 140mph you'd better not have any oil leaks, have tight and up to snuff suspension, brakes, and alignment, not to mention tires with high enough ratings.

Next, if you don't have the couple hundred dollars for a track, you sure as hell won't have the couple hundred more it'd cost to pay off the ticket, raised insurance cost, etc... when you're caught on a public road doing that kind of stuff.

If the roads in new york are as piss poor as you guys are making it out to sound, I don't exactly think you should be going 140. Not even 90. A pot hole or bump at highspeeds isn't exactly safe.

How about you go to a dragstrip. It's a straight line, and you can actually prove something and have a benchmark for testing.

I would think that after nuking your brand new clutch, not being able to figure out where a BOV goes, trying to dry launch your car, and whatever else is next up your sleeve you might just take a week to back off and re-evaluate what the heck you're doing to your car without anywhere near enough knowledge (yet) to do so.

I may be coming off as an ass, but someone had to say it.

^^Very well put, and I agree with everything.

I have to bite my tongue hear because I feel strongly against street racing and pre-meditated wreckless driving on public streets.

If you really want to take your car that fast and test its limits I ask, for the general publics safety, that you do the homework and find a track / event that you can make it to and participate in. Tracks are much safer for the public, you, and your car.

i just get these stupid ideas to do stupid shyt cuz I think its cool...but i never take the time to reaally think about it......

i mean, it occurred to me "okay i really dont need to go that fast" and "do i realy need a bov?"

i tend to get a lot of ideas flooding my head at the same time and i let them get to me.......

anyway, you were right dude, its just me, i've read the last few posts....and they do look, and sound wierd.....

You pay to play. And passing a tech inspection is definitely a good idea (he should, he has a new car). Hopefully they make sure you have tires that are rated for speeds that your car can dish out.

Dan is right about everything except the clutch (I think) - that was overl0ad that had clutch issues, not this guy.

AutoX around here has a somewhat lax tech inspection, no special equipment needed, and only costs $15

I believe in the maxim "It's not what you have but what you do with it". Anyone can hop in a car and mash their foot on the pedal, but it takes more skill and effort to maneuver your car in a timed obstacle course. Saying that, I agree with the others in that you should try auto crossing.

The fees are relatively cheap and the tech inspection is pretty basic. You will also learn a lot of yourself and your car. The SCCA use to have weekend events down in the airfield down by Brooklyn. Its the same place where NYPD has their Aviation hanger. It's probably on that list Huffer posted.

Street racing is definitely a bad idea. It's best left to Hollywood and dreams of bravado.

'Nuff said-

Also note that the majority of Northeastern states have reciprocity agreements for traffic violations. That means a reckless driving ticket in NJ transfers to your NY license including points. Also insurance companies don’t care which state a ticket originates from; a reckless driving is just that, and has a huge impact on insurance history.

+1 Track.
Track time is much more enjoyable. Not only can you test the limits of your vehicle, but you can do so all day long in a completely legal and safe(er) fashion.

Yea it does. My insurance doesn't count anything unless its on my record, when i transferred my licence to CO my insurance went down.

Who cares about points and insurance? What about getting prosecuted for manslaughter because you killed someone "testing the limits" of your car on public roads?

when testing the limits of your car, always find a school zone....jk, someone had to say it...

for real though, find a track, there's nothing better then being able to test your limits where the elements around you are controlled....

and as for having to pay, make sure to find some local meets that may be at a track, sometimes you may get lucky and the price is uber cheap compared to a speeding/wreckless driving ticket. hell, i've even been to a track day where it became free with unlimited passes... just gotta keep looking thats all...
