I'm not a big fan of the eclipse, but....I do like the older ones a lot better than the new ones. They should never have gotten rid of the turbo 4 cyl and gone with the 3.0L 6 cyl. the V6 is kinda weak.

Nice Car though...gotta love red :smt023

Edit: Get yourself some stainless steel headers for that baby! Those old ones look a little crusty!

My buddy had the same style (non-popup headlights) mitsu but with the N/A 2.0 DOHC, that thing was pretty badass, I loved the interior setup with the high center console and the perfectly placed shifter so you could rest your arm on the center console and only shift with your wrist. That was the car I learned to drive stick on as well now that I think about it. It's too bad it kicked the bucket at 110k, those dsm's are on their last legs after 100k, and he didn't have the cash to get the parts to rebuild the engine, so he ended up getting rid of it (then again he did crash it before the engine blew and bent the frame...got it repaired and all fixed up and THEN the engine decided to go...hence the no money issue). Nice clean dsm though, glad to see someone's rocking the oldschool turbos still. Were the TSI's AWD as well as the GST's?

"headers" per say are a waste on the dsms. I'll deal with the rustiness, but I do plan on getting a ported exhaust mani off the evo (it flows like f'n crazy!) but stuff like the pacesetter headers and such... even the guys pushing 700hp are still running the evo mani's. The 4g63t is one of the best turbo platforms to build up, the stock internals can handle around 400hp. I'm not a big fan of red... planning on repainting the whole thing (even the black roof) oriental blue. Stuff like that can wait until the engine is built, though!

I was at a Mitsu dealership and the guy was trying to say how "great" the new ones were, I told him the engine was crap (only not so politely) and the only way to go was 4g63t. He looked at me like I was speaking Greek. I told him he was worthless and left.

The TSIs and the GSX were AWD, but they also made FWD TSIs

For the record, mine's a Talon... not and eclipse, even tho it has the eclipse front bumper (jackrag who had it before me did it)

One last edit... Pwise, my girl went from a 97 Jeep GCL to her Legacy.... thought that was an odd coincidence! She loves it.

I was wondering about that...with it debadged it was kind of hard to tell...
What really distinguishes it from an Eclipse? I was thinking the roof pillars/glass were whispering "Talon" to me.
As for the rest...me likey :D

yeah, eclipse was all one color, they had different tails... and that's about it. I'm fabbing my own front bumper cover because the ones available for it look like junk, nothing over the top or anything, just a bigger opening (for when I get my fmic) and some other bits of style...

getting a different set of skirts, might leave the rear the same. the only other real aesthetic mod i wanna do is get a turbo emblem off a porche or vw for on the back.

Get the Porsche one!
FMIC? You're definitely ambitious my friend! Have fun with your talon!

Yeah, forgot to menton I'm not putting the little c/f lip on the bottom of the bumper. FMIC indeed, I'm gonna need it for when I get a 57 trim turbo. Yes its going to be sick...

Ha, that is a weird coincidence on the Jeep GCL to 98 Legacy transition. GSX, thats what I was thinking but at the last second I thought the GST's were them. Yeah I knew that wasn't a talon front end, hence the mitsu reference, you should swap the ass end and make a covert TSI. The real distinguishing factors exterior-wise are the body parts (front/rear bumpers, lights, paint schemes, wings, etc. The eclipse taillights went straight across and the roof is painted to match. What kinda numbers are you looking for when you're done with the engine build?

My short-term goal is low 11s/high 10s... but after i got my latest insurance bill I'm almost debating selling it!

First off I would like to say I love the Master Shake air freshener! At one point around here all you seen were dsm's. Even with the bumper changed it screams Talon. One of my friends has a slight obsession with dsm's. His first car was a 90 eclipse (pretty much stock) and he got the 94-95 TSi (AWD Turbo for you who don't know). This car was totally set up for racing. Interior gutted, had a roll cage, fuel cell, 200 shot of nitrous. Under the hood was ridiculous. I couldn't give you numbers but it smoked everyone at the drag. He sold it recently (lucky guy who owns it) and I think he is working on getting another dsm. My nephew sold his 97 GSX (AWD turbo for the rest of you). The timing belt snapped and blew a rod. That was a fun car to drive, but now he drives a 98 Maxima. I hate Maxima's!!! That is the top car around here, you will see 20-30 a day it's stupid. Anyway you car looks good and keep up the good work.
