You know, when I got into modding my Legacy. It used to frustrate me a bit.

No die cast toys or models of our cars. No cool t-shirts.
On Subaru forums you get ignored. People in local chapters arrange local WRX meets.

The forum Nasioc
North American Subaru IMPREZA owner's club, is like another slap in the face.

Even the supposed WRX fans because of WRC, do they know the Legacy was the car that started it all for Subaru, Nooooo.

So you would think, that after the new Legacy GT would come out, it would change a bit. Nope.

Legacygt.com really focuses on NEW Legacy owner's. When I first noticed the site, I thought, what, they can't post in Nasioc or SLI, they have to get their OWN special site. I mean I do frequent their site, and they are kind enough to put a topic of OLDER legacy performance, but it seems like they are in their own world.

Today, I pull up to a 2005+ white Legacy GT. I notice an aftermarket exhaust, so I give the owner's a thumb's up, you know, to show I appreciate his car. Just to give a nod.

What does he do? He takes off at the light. I just sigh. I could have chased him and showed him a thing or two, but I thought, eh, why bother. Perhaps he'll post on a forum about smoking a white Honda with a hoodscoop or something.

No respect I tell you.

I found quite a difference between owning a bugeye, and STi, and now the Leg. Before the Leg I used to get alot of waves on the road, but I admit I am guilty of not waving at Legs/Outbacks - waves were not usually returned by Leg/Outbacks as they were usually driven by non-performance oriented people. Now in the Leg I have given up at waving at WRX/STi/STI becuase, unless they are from my local Subaru club, they just ignore me (despite the aftermarket exhaust, gold rims, wing, "i" badge and very noticable red Hellas behind the grill.

The Legacies just seem to blend into the background - at least in the eyes of the performance Imprezas anyway :roll: .

Try being a BE/BH. At least you gut have the lego quality going for you and hood scoops. We have to buy hood for turbo baja to get hood scoops.

But I do agree. I also like flying under the radar and being a little different than everyone else.

I don't see myself over and over again which is an O.K. trade off for being the true red headed step-child.

I like being the different shape at the meets... I also like beating up on the guys that blow their engines or clutches or diffs every 6 months. I might not keep up with them on a straightaway, but I won't be neighbours with them in the shop every season.

Plus, anything they spend megabucks on, I can pick up for much less when they can't afford their payments.

Payments, or mods? Give me mods anyday. ;)

Another point: at autox's people usually have no clue what the car is, unless you tell them. It sounds like a WRX, goes like a WRX, but doesn't look like it... :lol:

You may be right about no respect from imprezas but I find that I get alot of attention from drivers of other modified cars and people on the sidewalk. Both of which have no idea what car it is......and I kind of like that. Its kind of funny to see people walk around to the back to read the badges.....what would they do if I debadged..

that is so true if you take badges off not a lot of people will know which car it is. I actually like that, because im so tired of all the honda's and acuras around that i'd rather be in uknown vechicle than in one of the popular ones its makes you stand out.

i agree with just about everything that has been said. its definatly differant than my integra.

to my suprise tho, i did drive by a guy in a sti on the freeway, i was passing him, i gave him a thumbs up and a nod and kept driving, while he looked a little confused, then as i started to go by him, he gave it a little gas to catch up to me and give me a wave and a nod. i thought that was pretty cool, he musta liked my steelies.

I find our legacys can look a heck of a lot classier than any Impreza. The compliments I get from older people are worth more to me than those from 'car people'.

my roommate and most of my friends like ragging on my subaru addiction. Most of them also grudgingly admit that the BD legacy is one of the most attractive "normal" cars they have ever seen.

Yes, it can be tough not having the amount of parts and support available for our specific model sometimes, but when you get right down to it just about anything for any year impreza can be made to work on our cars.

The community being smaller isn't a bad thing for me, I like the fact that I drive something a little out of the ordinary. The fact that I think the BD/G/K Legacy is far and away better looking than almost any other Subaru (I'd put the GC sedan/coupe on par) doesn't hurt either. ;)

The first gens were cool because you could get them with a turbo, the second gens are ignored, and the third gens are only cool because of the turbo (again).

Yeah, I agree, and I feel the same way, but also... It's kinda nice. We can use aftermarket parts for NA imprezas, there's usually at least suspension parts available for our cars, and as mentioned, it looks better than the BE/BH. ;)

Also, some of them are getting rare. Not like the Starion, but they are starting to go back into the woodwork.

I went from a BE to a BK, and I'm not going to go back, no way.

i like legacies because of their design... i mean its a wagon but its just a wagon car most other cars are called "station" wagons lol but anyway i agree with you all Avery body has a civic and other popular cars, mostly because they are cheap and parts are cheap unlike the legacies, with these cars parts are rare and if you want more out of them DIY is mostly what your going for so most or even a majority of legacies are unique.

As far as toys, I did just manage to find a model of a Hippo Sleek BG Wagon at a Japantown hobby store in San Francisco, I was going to post a pic of it if people haven't seen it. I was actually pretty shocked to see it.

I also have a B4 White sedan die cast toy of a B4 made from Autoart.

That is it, the rest of my car toys are IS300's or RX-7's, which are pretty plentiful. :grin:

I like SL-i, it's a cool place to hang out, much more relaxed than the forums on Nastycock (it's one big penis-swinging contest in the tech forums sometimes ~_~).

Only thing I can complain about is that not enough performance parts transfer over to my car from the ricer...er I mean WRX's and 2.5RS's :grin: :twisted:

Oh yeah, I've gotten a lot of compliments from subaru owners and non-subaru owners alike; I never really thought about the Legacy aspect of it. A clean, nice looking car, is a clean, nice looking car no matter what badge is on it.

My car has definitely grown on me, and it's grown on some of my friends. I used to always get the shit for driving a wagon, but after the suspension drop and all the other small mods I've done, they actually admit that it looks (and sounds) pretty nice. Most of the real car guys I know have love for the car, and I care waaay more about the enthusiasts comments than the average high school kid who couldn't tell a crank shaft from a differential. I actually seem to get alot of love over on Nasioc.

Also, +1 to not attracting alot of attention (from cops, and such). And hunting down the right parts is half the fun!

Its nice to stand apart from the crowd. In a slammed wagon, with the car seat in the back, my wife's car definitely looks different from most wagons. I have no engine mods, at the moment, but it handles well in the turns and is surefooted in the snow and rain.

Every so often we get the nod from other enthusiast and most of the ones we see are not subies. But the bottom line is we love our little "SlamaRoo" and it keeps my family safe when its slippery outside.

I visit the other subie forums but feel more at home here. There's a good group of folks here and we all share a common interest.

Keep up the good work on your cars and I've learned a lot from you and enjoy your posts.

I noticed that I too get more looks from non-subie drivers. What's really strange is I'm in Colorado. I think the only other state that can compete with the shere number of green subaru legacy wagons is Washington. A honda driving coworker quickly saw my JDM sidemarkers and complimented on them. No subaru enthusiast has made mention of it to me yet. I also LOVE the looks over the shoulders as you pull up on a slower moving car. They hear something look over, and it's a green wagon. Then they just kind of stare unsure of it. Then you get the looks in parking lots/on streets from the pedestrians.

But I don't think the impreza/WRX crowd will ever really give the older cars the nod. Maybe its an OEM turbo thing.

Edit: I thing subaru is seeing a growing interest in the legacy over the years so i am guessing they are pushing the Legacy STi but at the same time i dont know if they just using it as a marketing strategy by putting STi on the end, their is a STi forester now, maybe soon their will be a STi Version of the vivo.
