What is necessary for a wrx engine swap into a 1998 legacy GT?
I would also need to know what I would need for the wrx transmission as well.
Any help would be great.

You'll need the motor, all accessories, a full wiring harness, and the transmission. You'll also need a crossmember for a turbo subaru.

Bump :D when or if my next wagon manages to hit 200k i wanna do this conversion.
Sooooo
I will Need These parts to turn my Nonturbo Auto into a Turbo manual.
STi Engine + Tranny (Assc. Inc)
Turbo Crossmember
I read a few threads about swaps and i got the understanding that $6,000
Should be enough for the parts and labour.
I am not sure i am just ballparking it, correct me if i am missing something out.
Pretty much eveyrthing they said. However, if your 98 gt has a 5sp there is no advantage to switching to the wrx 5sp, it's the same trans.
The 6 sp sti trasmission...whole new game.

if a professional was to do the swap, how about how long would it take?
By professional i mean a shop with all the necessary tools.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned the rear end yet. The ratios are rarely the same between models. If you've got a viscous limited slip center diff, then you'll be superheating the fluid in it until it locks the clutch up and then either breaks a hard part or goes right back to frying the clutch plates on the diff. Either way your having a rough time.
So in conclusion: Get the rear end too.

My Conclusion: Its a waste of money. i changed my mind about the swap.
its gonna cost more than what i paid for my car to do the swap, and i could have gotten a complete 02 Sti Engine for 1500 US :(, i might buy it and find a sti Shell
