it really doesnt come down to how much power u have for anything besides a clutch. clutches will slip with too much torque, all the other components explode because of how u drive, not how much power you have..

so i can have like 200-300 whp and the clutch is the only thing to worry about....sry im new to this stuff and desperate for knowledge

well yes and no. it comes down to how u drive, providing your not launching the car hard or being abusive to the drivetrain, then it should hold up pretty well but if you beat on it, odds r good the first things to go would be your tranny or axles.

if i am abusive to it then what are some cheap options to upgrades my driveline

There aren't any. You can either get straight cut gears, or upgrade to an STi 6 speed. Both are thousands of dollars. Axles I don't think would go before your transmission.
My advice would be to not launch the car or abuse it until you can afford the upgrade.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear. But mostly 2nd gear (as a result of how people drive and the power supplied to the tranny). There was a guy here in town who drove without 2nd gear for a few months because his shredded.

so what your all saying is theres really no cheap solution other than not driving like an idiot?...that sounds like the all around best idea lol

You can still drive like an idiot and never abuse the drivetrain.
But never driving like an idiot will be cheaper in the long run. ;)

Yea, that's the idea. It sounds lame, but it's not really all that hard, just baby the transmission when taking off from lights and the like. I know a guy with a 350whp wrx with the stock transmission, unbroken for 25k miles. I also know a guy with a stage 1 wrx who's broken 2nd gear twice, and 1st gear once.
However, once you go to straight cut gears, you can go to town. Those things will never break

You may need ear plugs though.

Haha the PPG's aren't really that loud. It just kinda sounds like your car is supercharged lol. Nowhere near that bmw video someone posted.

lol yeah, that's the beauty of an AWD car; you drive it like a bat out of hell and the driveline will absorb the shock, and eventually the whole transmission will take a dump on you

yup, as said, the energy stored in the flywheel can be much much more than what the engine can produce. Being rough is slow unless you're drag racing, and drag is dumb anyway.
A good trans cooler can make a significant difference for trans durability, but you never see them on scoobs for some reason. I like having a clutch that can't handle a whole lot more power than what the engine produces; they're cheaper to replace, are easier to drive, and i'd rather roast the clutch a bit than destroy drivetrain parts.
The stock r160 rear differential can't hold more than ~200hp in the long run but 'd consider that a 'replace when the time comes' sort of deal. r180s and r200s bolt in with the right axles and mounts from other scoobs. Or used r160 from a jy is ~50$. I got an 40$ LSD for a replacement, which doesn't drive any different than the open one did.
96 legacy trannys are cheap at a u-pull-it.
But never driving like an idiot will be cheaper in the long run.+1

Trans coolers are for autos where the fluid is under much more abuse since it is used as a means of transfering torque. Also, most manual transmissions don't have pumps so there would be no way to move the oil through a cooler under pressure.
I'd agree the run of the mill 5mt could probably handle a small bit of power, I think 350 at the crank is a big stretch though. Maybe 200-225 crank horsepower? But even that would require a conservative minded driver.
If you had the power it'd be all too tempting to slam the shifter and drop the clutch... I know I would slip up eventually and it might only take 1 slip.
