So the new vehicle (yes it's a Legacy wagon) has some weird brake/rust blowby on the sidepanels. It didn't look too bad until I washed it, and then got down at ground level and kicked into it with a claybar.
How do you remove the side strips (bump strips) on the doors?
Are they just glued on, or snapped on?

I believe mine were snapped on, but there wes also glue. I know the one on the fender is just snap-on. (BD Legacy)

Any idea how to remove the strips then?

The strips are clipped on and supposed to be a PITA to get off. There was a member on here with a blue 95 legacy with a WRX scoop molded into his hood and he said he broke all the clips holding in his side moldings.
His username was something like 95legacy or something, so if you browse readers rides you might find his pictures which would show his driver side without the molding on.

Theres no way to get them off without breaking every single clip, a lot of heat and a lot of patience. I tried to remove mine when I painted the car.
100% not worth removing

Dumb question time - what about if I attacked them from the inside of the door cavity?

Thats what FSM calls for, but no details - just "remove trim, and use pliers". I was taking off my door trim today for some other stuff, and while I might get to 1 or two clips that are close to openings in the door's inside shell, but to get to the other 2 or 3 - you'd have to have very bendy hands, or so it seemed to me.

Probably need angled pliers then... I'm thinking when the car gets painted, I'll just have the shop remove them and weld a panel there instead. Flat doors!

IMO, the bump strips are really nice if you want to avoid scratches. It doesn't always have to be carelessness on your part to cause problems.
I would get flatter bump strips that look more like part of the body, but would still be functional.

It's very hard to reach them from the inside without removing the window and track. There's a side impact beam in your way as well.

I like the flat door idea. I wanted to do that to my GT. I have yet to remove these moldings yet. But why can't you take them off and snap the clips? Just go and buy new clips, they shouldn't be a lot of money.

I agree, the trim less doors look good. Some guy on cardomain had his rear doors gutted and welded shut, so he had a legacy coupe, and he also had his doors shaved.
The trim pieces are pretty cheap, if you wanted to keep the trim, you'd be better off tearing it off quickly, and just getting new stuff.
