Anyone have a 225/45/17 tire on a 7" wide wheel? I'm interested to see what this "poke" looks like.

No, I mean a 7" wide wheel.

Title edited to make more sense.

Also is anyone running a +55-53 offset on a 7" wide wheel with a 225 tire?

Any rubbing?

I have 225/45R17 Avon Tech M500s on 17x7 ET52 Prodrive P1 wheels on the car right now, there is about 1/4" of clearance between the strut and the tire all around. The rears rub slightly at full bump (I had already removed the rubber trim strips on the rear wheel wells). With ET53 or 55 wheels you'll be pushing it really close to the strut, especially if you want to run a little camber. That said, YMMV as not all 225/45R17 tires are the same width.

225/45/17 on P1 17x7" (sorry for the bad pic, I've already sold the rims...)

225's will bulge a bit, no matter which tire you get. 615's sidewalls are already pretty stiff, so other tires should bulge even more.

With 17x7.5" rims or 215 width tires, the sidewalls should sit more flushed.

EDIT: Is this what you mean by poke???

That it is. Thanks. Do you have a pic of them on the car?

Did you get any rub from the tires? Looks like you're lowered.

Without coilovers, 225's will rub no matter what from what I've experienced. I ran them with Cusco Comp-S and they were fine, although my spine wasn't.

With the Prodrives, they rubbed in the rear only with passengers when you:

- run over some bad potholes
- going on certain driveways
- pushing the car through turns too hard.

I was on stock sways and no camber adjustment - I'm thinking those 2 should help.

I would just get 215 with better compounds. There isn't a whole lot difference between the 2 widths.

yeah i run 225s on stock 16X6.5 Forester rims, and i had to roll my rear fenders because the tires were rubbing on the body pretty badly. my car sits pretty low on '04 STi struts and springs though.

I was rubbing all the time on 225 tires, +48 offset, and lowered. I'll stick with 215. Thanks fellers.

BE's wheel well has a higher tolerance for wider tires.

As long as you're not changing your overall rolling diameter, you shouldn't have a problem.

Check your tire/wheel combo:
google "tire calculator" 1st link (miata.net/garage)

I don't have a 16in rim, but I've run 215 tires on both a 52 and 55 offset and never rubbed.

You need to take in account to the tire sidewall stiffness.

17x7.5 +48 Gram Lights
Falken Azenis 225/45/17
Megan Coilovers - front camber maxxed out (no rubbing)

I rubbed like HELL in the rear so i raised it a bit until i get the fenders rolled. IMO its too much rubber. The previous owner wanted the extra rubber not me. I'll probably be getting the AVS ES100 follow ups (es100 are discontinued if you want a deal from tirerack) if my local tire hook up has them.

Either roll the fenders or 215 with a nice sidewall will do the trick.
